Torrents are P2P. You do enough normal downloads every day that they probably don't bother checking them.

I've heard that Time Warner also joined in the six-strike plan. Any idea on when/how they will be enforcing it? I will be switching from them if they do something like this.

How would the librarian know what books you're checking out from the library? He watches the name come up on the screen when he scans the books. What makes you think your ISP can't do that?

Customers whose accounts are repeatedly flagged for alleged copyright infringements will have their access to frequently visited websites blocked, until they complete an online copyright course.

So I guess illegal downloading is the new DUI probation. Go shove it AT&T and pretty much every other ISP.

pretty sure there's no way to tell between legit torrenting and illegal torrenting (assuming you aren't downloading their tracker program torrent) without actually looking at the info, which requires a warrant here in the US.

Who would ever have an open Wifi network.

I see it everyday in my line of work. Or grandparents who have their grandkids over who download god knows what on their computer and leave.

Thing is, the companies don't look at downloaded material. They look at uploaded and shares material. My Isp does this currently, and all you have to do is turn off the upload, or severely limit it.

Done deal.

Waiting for the millions of lawsuits that happen when WoW/Starcraft/Diablo patches happen. These systems detect P2P traffic and flag your account, it is a flawed system. They are trying to stop sharing between users of any kind and there are many types of online games and programs that may be detected as P2P by these programs. Until they can packet sniff the difference between legal and illegal software (which is a violation of our privacy and rights), then these systems will never work. Class action lawsuits, and large customer loses will force these ISPs to stop this nonsense very quickly.

Also, some people here didn't read the other articles. The existing 3 strike policy ISPs have is very different than this policy. The 3 strike policy required companies to report you to the ISP before you got warned (Hence, peerblock, etc). This 6 strike policy includes the 'new' the ISP scanning software for P2P traffic. If the software works as advertised, expect to get a warning every time you use P2P. 6 files and your internet is terminated, and based on what i've read it won't matter if it's 6 WoW patches from the blizzard downloader or 6 movies from torrents, both are detected as "suspicious P2P traffic". The terms even state "alleged" illegal downloads, so even if they can't prove it was illegal, expect the consequences to be the same.

Here's hoping i'm wrong and they are just using scare tactics.

I am not sure if I have problem with stopping the games from sharing...I think Blizzard should be using their bandwidth and your bandwidth to update your machine...lol...MY bandwidth shouldn't have any part of it. It makes it faster in its current state, but if it needed to be faster they should have more update servers spread around. So they are just using our bandwidth to save money.

At the end of the day...there can't really be excuse for P2P of any kind any more. Anything of any value will be available via FTP or HTML
