some tips though sounds like you got it sorted already;

- don't use the onboard display, you should have this fully disabled unless you want some horrible things like screen tearing and texture "artifacts", its a desktop not a laptop

- use the latest drivers from AMD's site, don't bother with the crappy drivers from ASUS

- as of windows 8 (and 7 does this somewhat too), there will always be default drivers installed that are generally very basic and don't do much but provide you a steppingstone to install the official drivers, if nothing pops up while booting or your computer doesn't boot at all you likely have a hardware fault, (reseat etc, check both PCIe power lights are on), or you left the onboard graphics on.


from the "please install asus gpu first" error, sounds like the typical asus software failing to do its job coupled with using the intel gpu instead of the card.
