Get the 670, wish I had waited for it, but I was impatient.

The only 680 worth looking into is the Lightning 680 otherwise go with the 670 as it is the better value although I would highly recommend the 7970 over the 670 as it costs the same yet offers performance on the same level as the 680.

Currently the best reasonably priced card is the GTX 670 (on Nvidia's side) even though it is overpriced a little. GTX 680 Lightning is very overpriced and the 7970GE is priced lower and will stomp all over it at higher resolutions with high AA levels.
680 Lightning might be the best 680 out there but sure it doesn't worth the price.

^ this for sure. The 7970 is a better card imho, wider memory bus, more vram, far cheaper than a GTX680. Only bummer is it's power consumption, but that's no biggy unless your sporting more than 2 of them.

Only on multiple monitors does the 7970 edge out the 680. On any given single monitor resolution, a good clocking Lightning 680 will come out comfortably on top a good clocking 7970.

True voltage control via software and unmatched beauty, quality and craftsmanship. Worth $600($580 after rebate) to me but obviously will depend on pocket of buyer and his or her wants

This review is since last July. You think AMD didn't update their drivers since then? thinking.gif
Also they use FXAA in all the games. They don't want to put much stress on the ROPs and the bandwidth to show the weak spot of the 680.

Review was done with game changing Catalyst 12.7 beta and Forceware 304.48. My Gigabyte 7950 is still on 12.7 but I've tried 12.8 and 12.9 beta and there's hardly any performance gain in the games I play.

680 take bigger hit from use of FXAA despite FXAA being Nvidia tech. 7970 is and should be faster at FXAA.

Thread Starter
The only reason that I've counted out the 7970/7950 is because neither of them will fit in my case. I have a max clearance space of 10.6 inches. Both of those cards are longer than that. The GTX 670 comes in at 9.5 inches and the GTX 680 is 10 inches. That's the only reason why I'm not sticking with AMD.

I was stuck in a similar situation with my crappy case (had to cut costs somewhere to offset the cost of my graphics card). Then, I discovered the Dremel. HAIL TO THE DREMEL.

So yeah, I cut out part of my hard drive cage so that the case could accommodate longer graphics cards. In reality, it's much easier just to buy a card that fits in the first place.
