As far as performance goes, AMD was promising AIBs roughly a 30% speed boost from the new silicon a few months back. That we hear is fairly optimistic, with more measured sources saying +15% is more likely. AMD is power bound and die size equals cost, so what you are looking at is process improvements and algorithm optimizations rather than any new big bangs.S|A

Might be just charlie being charlie but still.

Sounds right to me. Even if the gains over current gen are fairly anemic I will still probably unpgrade to it as I am still rocking a 6950 which can be a problem in some games at my resolution.

I may or may not grab a new card. I've been wanting to replace my 580 but I really couldn't justify the price for a jump to something like a 7950 or 7970. But then again I've slowed down on gaming and I also think waiting until the new consoles come out and wait for the video cards that come out after the consoles.

That 580 should last through the next gen, it's no slouch.

I know I won't be upgrading unless the prices are very reasonable, my 7950 at 1235/1600 runs anything I throw at it at 60 FPS, and that's enough for me.

Really no games out to warrant an upgrade. I have my 2nd card off most of the time.. You need eyefinity or 3d to need more power. I'm hopeful we will see more pretty games with new consoles

I thought the 8800-series of GPUs were supposed to match up to the 670 and 680?
Now the 8900-series is +15% of 7970GHz Edition, even granting the 7970 GHz Edition a +5% on the 680 would mean the lineup would be incredibly tight with the 8950 at +10% over the 680 and the 8970 at +20%.

Pretty much what i expected , AMD and Nvidia will both deliver 15 to 20 % upgrades and the "power" balance will stay same as currently with 6xx/7xx series , only thing I'm curious about is will AMD release dual GPU in 8xx lineup.
I will probably be skipping next series of GPU's , than again i say that every year

Charlie was right about Fermi, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thats great news for me, didn't want to upgrade again.

I went from 5870s to 6970s to 7970s, and now, I will skip this Generation (please I need to believe what I just said)

Slower progress is in no way great news. Your older cards won't suddenly stop being good when new and better products release.
If you want to have the best, then you must spend the most.

Mr lives under rock , the 7950/7970 equals the 670/680.

sea island's gonna be powerful. and nv is worried that kepler stocks will go waste.
Please if you do that kind of comments, can you please provide a source. Without any source, your comment is garbage and speculation more than this thread.

The 670 is on average tied with the 7970 and the 680 is on average tied with the 7970 GHz Edition at 1920x1080 resolution.
I'm not denying the 7970 edges out the 680 at higher resolutions like 2560x1600 or 5760x1080, but that doesn't change the fact that the majority of people are sitting with 1920x1080 monitors.

Yes because Charlie is known for journalism that's in Nvidia's best interests.

Still, we should take it with a grain of salt, but from the looks of it it's probably right, or at least close enough to be called credible.
Yeah, I'll still get one but that's only because my next best option is a GTX 470.

I forsee alot of people sticking with 7950/70s and 670/680s. That's what I'll be doing.
edit: The article he wrote about GK114 - http://semiaccurate.com/2012/10/12/what-is-going-on-with-nvidias-gk114/
See this is why I hate AMD. Nvidia and intel are only going to make something that beats AMD by a little bit so that they don't have to produce anther miracle product every year, and there by getting them more money.

Ivy bridge was supposed to be like an ungodly chip. Then AMD showed off BD. Intel laughed. And the IB chip was pretty much capped at 15% performance increase.

Same thing with these kepler and maxwell GPUs. Nvidia promised us the moon, and then when they saw that AMD is still kind of lagging behind, they pretty much decided to save the good stuff for later.

If Intel didnt undercut AMD for all those years with OEM, AMD might have been in a better position financially and could be making those "leaps" that you wanted. They dont have the funds and they are cutting employees to try to make money.

Proof? And I mean legitimate proof
