"Who's Online" is crap

Thread Starter
  • What happened?
I'm labeling this a bug because the implementation for this page is ridiculous compared to any normal forum system out there.
    1. It is not sorted by the time the user last clicked by default.
    2. It is not readable.
    3. It is not paginated.
    4. It is not sortable.
    5. It is not tabular. Things do not line up and it looks like a dog's breakfast.
  • Are you able to reproduce this problem consistently?
    Of course.

  • What steps did you take to reproduce this problem?
    1. Click here: http://www.overclock.net/users/online

  • What action did you expect to occur when this bug appeared?
To actually look at the page and expect to be able to read it and have functionality that is on pretty much every other platform I know of.

  • Any additional information that will help us diagnose the issue:
    n/a

  • Browser, active browser addons, and operating system:
    n/a
Actually come to think about it, it probably looks better in Lynx.

  • URL where the issue occurs:
    http://www.overclock.net/users/online

I'll build a better one in 30 minutes - no seriously, I'm volunteering! biggrin.gif

I maintain that it should have all the features of a sane platform. Although I probably am nit-picking, it still looks crap smile.gif
It looks like a rushed job to me - it would have taken them 5 seconds to implement a table so it all lined up. For someone who uses the page a lot, it is a pain in the ass to read and sort through without common features that other normal forum systems have. smile.gif

Your frustration is understood, but this is not a bug, it is a feature request, and only the admins of OCN can make feature requests to us directly. I just deal with what's broken, here.

I think one of the reasons for posting it in here is that the Suggestions seem to be getting ignored.  I have more than a dozen in there that have been there since June and none of them seem to have been looked at.  I was under the impression that my ideas for changes were strongly desired.

I don't blame tompsonn for putting this in here because it's time people start taking notice that this platform isn't as good as we were led to believe it was going to be.  Yes, it's been live for over 11 months now, but I missed the first 6.  I quit because of how strongly I disliked it, and I only came back and stayed here because otherwise I'd have nothing else to do in my life right now.

I'm discussing this with another member on here, and we are both agreeing that this is like a perpetual beta-testing period.  We also agree that the latest vBulletin would have been better.

Since I don't deal with suggestions, I can't really comment there, but it's up to OCN to prioritize different fixes and feature requests - there are a lot of those.  Right now almost everything is on hold while we finish developing the mobile platform, which I've been testing since last week (and I will still inevitably miss things).  Thank you for your patience and feedback, however.

Everything is on hold while the mobile platform is finished?  How long could that take?

Below are release notes for the upcoming October 11 release, including a bevy of changes made in the October 3rd release which we hadn't previously mentioned. Tomorrow will be our last regularly scheduled release for the month. Skipping release is going to allow for a double-length cycle of QA work on the next release, which includes a mountain of backend changes required to get the mobile version of the platform up and running.
