Quick pop then a restart

So I was doing nothing out of the ordinary and all of a sudden I hear a loud pop and what I thought was a quick flash from inside the case (from the corner of my eye) and the PC switches off and then restarts itself.

Everything started normally but I switched it off and inspected the whole thing. No popped or bloated capacitors on the motherboard, GPU looks fine too and my PSU (Corsair AX 750) looks normal too after looking it over with a flashlight. No smells or anything.

So, against my better judgement I put it back together and switch it on. And...normal boot up. Again.

I'm so confused right now. Surely there'd have been some sign of what caused it. But if I didn't see it pop myself, I wouldn't think anything was out of the ordinary. Now I switched it off again a minute later anyway.

So...what could it have possibly ave been. It's driving me nuts. If I know I could simply RMA or buy a new part but like I said, there's no sign of damage at all.

Could be a connector short on one of the case fans.....I recommend you dismantle everything (not just the big parts like mobo & psu) and install it all as if it were a brand new PC you just recieved......A pop is not normal even if it seems to be working fine...my 2 coinage.

Yeah I've taken out the mobo, GPU and PSU when looking them over. Could it have some kind of surge? Though I thought a power surge tends to fry a pc. Now, when I was plugging out the PSU, the connection for the 24 pin was a bit loose on the PSU side.

I don't know, I'm just grasping at straws at this point.

Your PSU (AX750) would protect the other components from a power-surge. But I had the same happen to me a while back, though not a big pop, just a small one and then a shut down. After inspecting all the parts (fans, drives, leds...) turns out one of my SSD's was the cause of the small pop(it had a big bubble on the plastic right on top of the power connector & it smelled but only up close) which was due to a defective power cable.

Again, I strongly recommend you check every part of the system that receives power, or take it to shop that can professionally diagnose the problem before it causes more damage.

So I've checked the Mobo, PSU, GPU, DVD drive, the two SSDs, HDD, CPU fan connector, fan controller that comes built into the case and every cable I can think of. Sweet nothing. Frustration doesn't even come close.

There's one other thing I can think of. I have a mini fridge in the same room as the PC. It starts up and stops every few minutes. Just the way it works. What generally happens though is that when it shuts off, it does something to the power for a split second. So if your playing the Xbox, the image will flicker in that split second. Or my speakers cut out in that time too.

It's been doing this for years now though so forit to suddenly do something to the PC is odd.

Interesting you mention this. My one week old Seasonic X750 (same as the Corsair AX, basically?) let out 2 loud pops when coming out of sleep mode and then went dead. Didnt have a strong odor even up close, but it would never power up again. I couldnt see anything wrong with it through the vent holes either. RMA-ed it to Newegg and awaiting a replacement.

I wonder if there is a bad batch of Seasonic based PSUs in the wild. Googling around showed they had a similar issue around July and August with the 1050W versions.
