I would actually recommend the SSD. Once you get used to it, there's really no going back. If you're trying to save a little money though, you can drop it down in size. But if you're hell bent on 128 like I am in my build, I'd recommend the Samsung 830. It's got great reviews and it's $10 cheaper. While I do have a 240GB Vertex III in my main PC and haven't had any issues with it (just the marvel controller making it disappear every now and then on a whim - moving it to the intel sata port fixed that problem), others have claimed they find other brands like the Samsung to be a little more reliable. Keep in mind, I use the optimizer strategy on my main pc where the user folder is actually on the hard disk drive (D drive) so the SSD (C drive) is not being constantly written to. Which I recommend for any SSD setup.
You can see my HTPC build
here. I'm just wondering if I should wait to buy everything for a week or two to see if the holiday shopping season presents some lower prices.
Like the gentleman mentioned above, while I've strictly stayed away from AMD in the past, there's just too much good to be said about the Trinity chips to pass them up. They're perfect for HTPCs.
