CaseLabs SM5: Official Launch - Page 8

He's probably having the same reaction that I have - beautiful case, but I see room for a 2nd vertical hole or want to; and I know that this case is m-atx but its the same size as my TJ-04 atx case.
I know, can't have it both ways, but I've been edumacated by building the 1 w/c in a Switch, and I like that push/pull rx360 setup with the pull fans outside the case. This case could do that, but not without using a drop in mount and that over-tall 120mm extended top. This SM5 and SM8 are great looking cases - they show what the owners remark on - solid, light, well designed, and built for accomodating a w/c build with the room necessary to be comfortable.

Guess i want that bit of claustrophobic cluster-F888 in a CL build.

Yeah the SM5 is very much a full on no-compromises beastly mATX case for watercooling. Air coolers will wonder what to do with the extra space. I'm hoping CL will make an M5 the double wide cube would mean that Jim could really shrink the size down more.

Edit: Hmm, yea now that I think about it it would probably be a bit better if there are two holes, with one right next to the SATA area of the mobo so the cables can connect more cleanly.

Yeah, Having 1 hole for the 24pin, USB3.0 and sata cables would make it look all bundled up. 2 medium sized grommets would look nicer.

also thought this was suppose to be out awhile back?

The cable mgt on the SM5 is definitely not finalized. I have been working with the prototype on my own build, and Jim and I have been discussing the different possible cable routing options.

We are currently swamped with prototype work from our OEM accounts causing delays in the release of both the SM5 and ST10. We want nothing more than to release these cases, but we can't rush them out the door. Right now our focus is to keeping shipments going out on schedule, and getting through this prototype work as best/fast as we can. We thank everyone for your understanding.

Thanks for the update.

Any chance, down the line, for a computer case not as wide as your current offering? My computer case area has a maximum clearance of D 530 mm x W 235 mm x H 530 mm; the SM5 fits with D and H, but is unfortunately too wide so that's a big no go at the moment, although I really would like one ^^

Any chance of an SSM8, i.e. SM5 depth and SM8 height?

You know I'm not sure, but It may be something to think about in the future. Although I think most people would just go with the bigger case. For example T10 and MH10 sales combined are not even close to the TH10 sales. Maybe if enough people hound Jim about it he will consider it...tongue.gif

Your welcome!

Well IMHO rolleyes.gif... I think that our design philosophy revolves around radiator support, modularity and overall usability. Our cases are not wide because we want them to be they are wide because they need to be. For example, a few design features we knew from the beginning that we wanted for Merlin were 120.4 support, reversibility, hinged doors, removable MB tray and good cable/tubing mgt behind the chassis divider. The Merlin cases are as narrow as physically possible to allow for these features to exist.

As time goes, what some would consider "a more practical size case " may come into play, but its just way too soon for to even think about adding another case line.

It's time to give the Magnum some of the lovely features of the Merlin. That being said I just ordered an M8 smile.gif
