All right guys, I think I got hit with a ton of bricks! biggrin.gif But now I've got a different problem to deal with, the CPU. Should I just go with Intel anyway because the i5 3570k is more powerful than the FX 8120?

AMD said something like they are going to make a PCI-E 3.0 mobo when they put out the DDR4 mobo. Looking like in 2013 or 2014.

If you have a Microcenter near you you can grab a 2500K for $160. The 3570K only performs a little bit better and runs significantly hotter due to cheap thermal solution between the die and heat cap. You can usually easily overclock a 2500K to make up for the performance difference.

i would wait and see what piledriver is like first although the i5-3570k is a powerful chip and you will have PCIe 3.0 tho not really need in most cases smile.gif

I really don't know what to do now mad.gif ! Going Intel will cost me a lot more either way, and now that Amazon makes Californians pay tax that will add another $100 dollars bull*****. Now it'll be a situation of whether or not I will even be able to build a computer. tongue.gif The release of the new CPU's might reduce the price of existing AMD processors but I don't know when they'll be out.

Anybody know the difference of a PCIe 2.0 vs 2.1? Is there a big difference in terms of speed between those two?
I understand how the OP feels - regardless if most of PCI-E 3.0 cards cannot benefit from more than PCI-E 2.0 I hate not having that feature. The 7970 actually can take advantage of PCI-E 3.0 right now - it gains about 3FPS over running in a PCI-E 2.0.

Have to have a CPU that also supports PCI-E 3.0 along with the motherboard. Ivy Bridge has PCI-E 3.0 support.

Go Intel. 3770k if you want to keep your system longer. SB and IB bring 20-40% better performance depending on the application.

I'd say wait for Hasewell though. It may have up to 10% better IPC than IB.

I want to know what Unreal Engine 4 requirements will be. I'm thinking everyone will be rushing to upgrade once games start using it.

Speed is the same or close to it. 2.1 was just a "preview" of 3.0
