Light colors such as white or gray have lower LOD than dark ones. Red pads also seem to have higher LOD. (This is valid for LED lightsource CMOS sensors, I don't know about laser ones).
The QCK pads are prone to become white because that cloth absorbs human sebum. Many people mistake worn QCKs for just unclean QCKs, this even happened to me, so when I washed I was really stunned.
Just machine wash (or do it by hand) your QCK and it will go black again (unless is really worn).
