i7 2700k temps too high?

Thread Starter
I just upgraded my PC and have the following hardware running,

i7 2700k @ Stock settings currently
Corsair H80
Artic Silver 5 TIM

First would like to say, that the TIM has been on the machine for only a day, and PC only been running around 4hours. So the TIM is probably not cured fully.

Now I am wanting to O.C to around 4.4 - 4.5 but im getting the impression my cooler isnt working properly, or something with the TIM is wrong.

Now I am probably just over cautious but I am new to Overlocking my computer so.

But my Idle temps are around 34c, and that seems high to me as I had better results with my old i7 950 with a h50.

And haven't tested with prime 95 yet, but while having around 20% load, temps were getting up to 45-50c.

Is this high for whats going on? Will the temps go down a good bit after the TIM fully cures?

And anyone have a idea of how much the temp will increase with a 4.4 - 4.5ghz OC?

Thanks.

fully load it and then reply, but yes you should be getting way lower temps.

your idle temp is fine. what you should be concerned about are the load temps. i set my pc (in bios) to shut down at 80C and i suggest you do the same. after you have done so, load your rig using Intel Burn-in test. watch the temp and they should not go over 70C with the H80. is the fan or fans in the h80 sucking air from the outside?

Use Standard setting in IBT with 5 runs at first. if temp looks fine, then do 10 runs. For stability, use Prime95 blend test for at least 12 hrs.

EDIT: BTW, what's your cpu vcore set at for 4.5GHz. it should be around 1.3V.

Before anyone could/should tell you that your temps are fine, need to know the ambient temps.

Unless you run IBT/prime or other CPU bound stress tester, you won't know if it's working properly or not.
I have an H80 on my 3930k @4.7ghz , Iddle with AC in my room on, highest core is at 35C. Under Prime95 it will shoot up to 80C, however during games (highest load I've seen) it will go up to 62C max. If I'm not running my AC, 39C idle - 66C max gaming.
In your case, the temps should be a lot lower than that under load (idle doesn't really matter since my cpu will go down to 1.2ghz and you can't get a lot lower than that)

Yes, I have the H80s fans in a Push/Pull config, pulling air in from the outside in.

The case im using is the Cooler Master HAF-X.

Having 1 fan blowing into the case from the side, the front with a fan on top for exhaust.

My Ambient/Room temps are around 80F, so around 26C-27C. And the room doesn't have much airflow, only a box fan in a window pretty far away so not doing much if anything for the pc.

And I'll run Prime95 shortly and post results.

EDIT*

Cannot locate a safe place to download Prime95. Anyone know somewhere to get it?

use IBT stresses temps much better than p95

With the same CPU downclocked to 4.5 GHz (unoptimized vcore) I get load temps of 55-60°C in a 24°C environment.

You should be able to get to 4.3-4.5 GHz without an increase in voltage. The important thing is to get the vcore right by manually adjusting it.
