5 down and no less than 2 up because once you go partner (300 steady viewers) you get the video quality options: 360, 480, 720, 1080 and, the "bigger" resses require the higher upload bandwidth to transmit smoothly. But the upside is that once you get partnered the stream can pretty much pay for it's own maintenance and if you have a chip in box you can get donations for upgrades. This guy Reckful, doesn't even run ads; he gets so many donations, streaming is his full time job and he just built a new rig with his "tips."

But Twitchers can be kinda fickle so you gotta stay up on the latest games or have onehelluva on camera personality to keep the viewers.

If you want to do 1080p @ 30FPS you need a constant 8Mbit up that dips no lower than 7Mbit to keep constant framerate without issues.

 

Even then, the Twitch servers can be a fickle beast at times.

 


As for PC;

Core i7 2600K @ 4.2Ghz, 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz Cas 8, Separate Recording HDD to the main one with good speed (Samsung Spinpoint F3 or faster). GPU wise, depends on the game, but Xsplit likes to hit that CPU & RAM pretty hard.

 

The one thing most folks don't have is a good network card for streaming. Realtek & Intel integrated NIC's just don't have the oomph for it.

 

Broadcom NetXtreme II, Killer NIC 2100, etc; something dedicated and pretty powerful.

But I might be able to score a decent NIC from the Techies in the back here at work

Wanted to get my hands on a LSI Raid Card, but then I realized I dont hav emuch for a use for it anymore ;p

I've seen people stream with a stock i5 and a bone stock GTX 560 ti--up to 720p which is good for Twitch. It comes down to connection speed, especially your up speed. 2-2.5 up you can pull of a good stream if the servers aren't acting up like Tator Tot said, which they do on occasion. You'll just have to fiddle with the bit rate in the stream program you are using.

Having at least 2.1-3Mbps up dedicated to the stream if running 720p is recommended. I stream 720p@45 with 3000kbps (3Mbps Upload). Haven't streamed in a while due to the internet acting up in my area for sometime. It seems, I may need to call Time Warner again and raise heck.
