first i had this X3 455 at 3.7 paired with XFX 7950 and my power consumption while playing BF3 was 270-290watts
measure with A-Kill-Watts.
then i mounted the FX8150 and now my power consumption is like in between 430-450watts , which is a very high, according to reviews on the FX8150 they show 250-270 no more than that... why im getting this high wattage while playing?
another thing is while watching a movie my pc now consumes like 180-200watts and before it was just like 120watts
something to note i have read that maximum voltage while using the CPU is 1.3 mine go up to 1.4 why is that?
thanks
note: can some of u let me now whats your power consumption while playing??
Setting: ALL STOCK NO OC

the 1.3 to 1.4 voltage is turbo.

it turbos to 4.2ghz for single threads

lightly threaded it's turbo to 3.9ghz.

load all 8 core and will be 3.6ghz

you could change the voltage of turbo speeds with AOD ( AMD Over drive) to tune the power usage down at bit.

you should be able to use way less then that for it I can run stable a 1.225 volt for cpu and 1.075 for cpu NB.

Stock is 1.300 cpu volts and 1.200 cpu nb volts

cuts down power and temperatures quite a bit. also not you went from a 95 watt chip to a 125 watt.

i tried that but after 1minute BF3 crash, and then the system crash in the desktop... im gonna try 1.225CPU and 1.1 NB

Bro, you should have waited for Piledriver. Going Intel would have been the best choice for lower power consumption not mention greater overall performance.

other than the power how is the gaming

Well I do not have the FX-8150 but I have the FX-8120 and my rig does very good with all the games I have played and I have over 300 between Steam and Origin and retail Box sets. I upgraded from a AMD Phenom II 1090t to the FX-8120 and it has been a very good upgrade and yes it was a upgrade. It is easy to just say go intel but for a lot of us with high end AMD motherboard it is not quite that easy or cheap. Going intel for me would have meant buying a new CPU and a new motherboard plus going to a platform I know very little about any more because I have not used intel since the Pentium II.

I game on Asus 27" 1080p 60hz monitors and I have not had any problems maintaining good fps in any of my games. I had a small handful of games that had a slight stutter with my 1090t and that was all gone with FX-8120 and that is what I was looking for in a upgrade. As far as power consumption goes I have know idea what my system pulls and since my apartment is all bills paid I really could care less! As long as the lights do not dim when I power it on it is all good.

Disable turbo and set your CPU Voltage to 1.25v and you are good to go.

You might wanna try to use multicore settings in order to use all 8 cores:

In CONFIG.W T F, add:

SET coresDetected "8"
SET processAffinityMask "255"

Setting processAffinityMask to 85 is also good, it will make it so it only use CPU 0/2/4/6
