I idle aroung 200w so considering how power hungry BD are I think it's expected. get an i5 2500k and be amazed with the performance increase AND the efficiency. those cpu's hardly consume power. an overclocked i5 2500k @ 5ghz still consumes less power than a stock BD. sad bad true

Something is wrong with his setup. My 8120 @ 4.3Ghz Idles at 130W.

look at this picture

Can you post pictures of all CPUID tabs? Does the fan you're using have 3 or 4 pins?

One more example.....

OP, my FX-8120 @ 4.8Ghz 1.5v pulls 440w from the socket. 120W of that is my 7850 at load. Your chip is definitely off.

My chip also idles at 125W @ 4.8Ghz.

Not entirely sure about 5GHz but I would imagine it would be close. My guess would be that @ 5GHz, the 2500K would draw a smidge more power. Here you can see that an i5-2500K @ 4.7GHz draws less power than a STOCK FX-8150

More proof?

Thread Starter
what i did was to turn turbo core off and now the power consumption its a lot better... for gaming i turn that on, but when im just watching movies and stuff i leave it off.

Dude 7850's have zero core and only consumes 3-4 watts during idle... Not 120.

a 7850 will only use 120w running furmark or something...

anyway
tomshardware was able to run the 8150 at 3.6ghz with only 1.16v

Its a known fact AMD was an idiot and over volted the 8100 cpu. You can drop the voltage a good deal and its still stable during benchmarks.

The extra volts is for stability. So the processor will run stock with turbo per its warranty. Every chip is different.
