knowing all that this laptop meets my requirements
i5-7
under 5 lbs perferable around 3 lbs
nice screen thats not just 1356x720 or whatever the resolution damn pcs keep putting out
close to 6 hours battery life.
graphics card able to run battlefield on med at 40 fps or guild wars maxed out
backlit keyboard
so basically it has the specs. and the speakers are good. i mainly need a laptop to fool around photoshop, games, but most importantly i need it to make music on the go since i am traveling a lot more now. with those requirements can i get a better PC version? this is my first Apple product and its over prices as all hell. i dont understand why all the Starbucks boys writing a fake novel on their Macs make this laptop seem to be SO cool. and guess what the 15 inch model is HEAVY. but the 13 inch configure sucks. HD 3000 graphics sure was cool back in '09 but not anymore. so its up to you guys to determine if i should stick with the laptop or return it and get like an asus zenbook prime or something

if you're in for an ultrabook/thin&light go check out the Asus Zenbook Primes

if you don't mind something heavier go check out the Thinkpad T430 or the T530. (I can get consistent 60% brightness, wifi on and over a whole schools day use on the 9 cell.)
They have great discounts on the Barnes and Noble lenovo website.

You could go grab a Lenovo X1 or something like that.

I pretty much bought my MBP simply because I had money to burn.
There wasn't really anything that made it standout from any other laptop I've used/owned/worked on.

Keep it, sell it, return it, throw it off a roof its your laptop. There's nothing special about them. Pretty average really.

T430/530 is another good option, legendary build quality and you can get a bit off the price using Lenovo's student discount. Although they are a little thicker than the macbook pro.

Just went to Lenovo's website and using the student discount configured a T530 with
i7-3610QM
NVIDIA NVS 5400M
1600x900 Matte display
Backlit Keyboard/Webcam upgrades
9 Cell battery
Total cost was $979. Didn't upgrade the RAM or HDD since those are cheaper to do OEM (for an SSD that is).

mate that thinkpad was the uggliest thing i have ever seen hahaha, the build quality is great i know how good those keyboards are., but aesthetics mater to me. So i just tried out my music applications and they all work really well. the viao S configuration with the 1080p and nvidia 640LE still has me on the fence. that sony is only like $1,150 SO MUCH better than the 1.7k this macbook pro was. so i think the final factor i should do is gaming. because battery life is in this macs favor at the moment i was on an 8 hour train ride from jersey to new hampshire and it lasted the whole way with 12% left when i got off ! ...so anyway how do i test gaming out on a mac. should i use bootcamp i herd games dont really run on mac lol

It's also a bit cheaper than the MBP and lighter as well. Don't get their new model with Windows 8 though, it's overpriced almost as bad or worse as Macs lol... You have to go into their clearance section and get the Windows 7 version, it has exactly the same everything except the new version has 100MHz bump in their quad core option (i7-3632QM instead of i7-3612QM). It will be much cheaper that way as the CPU upgrades are discounted, and plus I've found I don't like W8 anyway tongue.gif
http://store.sony.com/c/S_NB_VAIO_Clearance/en/c/S_NB_VAIO_Clearance
Pick the S series 15.5" customizable config. With an i7-3612QM, GT 640M LE 2GB, and a Blu-ray drive it's $1150, much less than the mac, or $100 less without the blu ray. Then you can order 4GB of ram and an SSD from newegg and install those yourself, still for much cheaper and better spec'd in most ways than the Mac.

Sony makes the worst laptops. I have owned two of them, on one they put a desktop mobo in it to save on costa which constantly overheated, you could send it back to them and all they would do is just blow it out with canned air,. And the second just died. If you are especially looking to mess with music Apple has been the brand that people do it on. If I myself were to get a laptop I would probably go with ASUS or toshiba.

You should start an investment class everybody would wind up rich.

I guess i should Clarify , While the Macbook Pro is a lot more than most Other Laptops , you are paying for a Logo , But you are still getting some of the best Build Quality Avaiable in Laptops , Sony's S Series is NIce , but i had a friend Purchase one and it took him quite a while to Fix his laptop to be Usable. Now Like others have said if you Really Find the Sony Or The Other Laptops Listed then Return and feel Free To Purchase. Resale Value for Macs is High , as well as you still have In lack of better words , Guranteed Support or Repair. "Sure it may cost , But you will atleast always have it taken care of"

I have a close friend who despises Apple Products , Broke down and Bought A MBP , And he loves it , The Quality is amazing , Hes Able to Run Windows as well as OSX , and Its Great for school.

Problem With Asus , Is with theyre Current Warranty Issue with just about Anything , the last thing i would personally want is to Drop 1300 Into a Laptop , That Will take me 2 Months To get Repaired, Toshiba is a good Brand , some Models lack build Quality , But its all about Testing them out yourself and Deciding Whether or not Its for you.

each to their own cheers.gif
but to me the thinkpad is a classical industry look that makes it look rugged and for work.

Function over form vs the MBP's form over function.

but my advice to you is get whatever works best for you. All of our posts are just our opinions and suggestions

Also one of the more balanced laptops in terms of power, portability, workmanship, ergonomics, warranty. Sum of its parts make up its worth.
