Wireless issues

After not playing my xbox for a while, I picked up forza, but realised to play online, I required a wireless connection. I have the old 60gb xbox, and trading in was out of the question, so I set about finding alternatives to Microsoft's $100 adapter. I picked up this; http://bit.ly/Rsae9e as an alternative, and it worked great as a bridge (In the same way people would use a router for the xbox to create a connection).

Fast forward a few weeks, and after not playing due to exams, I go to play, and theres a patch. So I download it, and leave it as it seemed pretty large. When I returned with the patch complete (I presume) my internet connection had been lost completely, and I could no longer access live at all. 'Wired Network' is recognised in network settings, but it can't establish a connection. I reset my receiver several times and reconnected it to my network several times. It's still functioning as normal and responds to LAN and WLAN signals. What is going wrong? Has my 3rd party wireless adapter been blocked or severed by microsoft? Or have I missed something in the network settings or similar?

Not sure what could be wrong... I would try clearing your HDD's cache, though. You can do this from 'storage device options' or something similar. Then restart and hopefully you have to re-update, and then hopefully it works. Maybe this would be a better question for Microsoft support or a post on their forums; it seems like a new issue from the patch.

Didn't consider that, cheers. But if my adapter isn't being recognised anymore, how I could update? I figured I'd leave this off the MS forums due to the fact I'm not using a MS approved device. Isn't that frowned upon?

edit; Tried it, didn't work...

Do you have the option of directly connecting temporarily? You could download the update that way. Perhaps bring it to a friends to borrow their Internet for it?

I don't think the Xbox forums will care what adapter you are using. Although, I doubt the general level of intellect of those forums regarding technological topics, but perhaps you'll come upon somebody who knows what they are talking about. The idiots will likely say "Just get a MS wireless adapter bro" or something to that extent.

Have you tried plugging a computer into the adapter to see if it receives internet? Also what IP is your Xbox resolving to. Is that mini AP assigning address or is the DHCP being taken care of by your actual router? Best bet would be to hook up a computer to the adapter directly and checking its settings.

Well I cleared the cache, no update or anything (mostly cause i can't get on live haha). I asked them, they don't seem fussy, but in any event I'm not forking out $100 for something Microsoft made redundant.

It is, I plugged into my laptop (where I set it up from) and it was receiving and transmitting a connection, it's showing up in my attached devices when I log into my router. The xbox is resolving my external IP, it shows up (eg. 16x.xx.xx.xx ), I've checked it and it was coming up OK.

Well that's why I said to connect directly; ie with an ethernet cable. Obviously you won't be able to update if you can't even get online lol.
