Huh? I thought GTX780 / flagship GK114 was supposed to be a literal doubling of GTX680 cuda cores, essentially a GTX690 on a single die with additional tweaks, how is it only 15% faster?

This doesn't surprise me if true, Nvidia would've cannibalized their own sales by making the 780 so much more powerful than a 680. It only needs to be fast enough to stay competitive. This is the problem when you don't have enough competition, we end up with two GPU companies that have slowed way down with advancement and neither has any reason to build a powerful monster GPU that would cost them a fortune to make.
