It's not like we need a 780 that's 2x as fast as the 680.

The 680/7970 are already fast enough to run any game out there at "retina" (1440 and 1600p) resolutions.

So why bother?

I have not kept up with the latest GPU developments, but how on earth could Nvidia justify having their flagship card to kick off the GTX700 series be only 15% faster than the flagship from the previous generation? Doesn't seem to make any sense.
