Actually i am thinking of adding another fan to the Cooler Master 212 EVO so that may not be viable..

I think for now, best option would be to re-align the fan a bit higher see how that goes.

Another thing, if it does work and frees up the 1st slot, do i have to get the exact model/type of RAM if i want to make it 16GB in total.

Currently i have G.Skill Ripjaws - F3 12800 (1600) - 8GBXM.

its ideal to get the same kit as you have but if you get a different kit..
1) make sure its the same speed or your memory will run a the slower kit speed.
2) make sure voltages are the same (most important or may cause stability issues)
3) best to have the same timings as well

1 and 3 are not required but optimally the best if they are met

Throwing in an extra stick of RAM may be beneficial if you need the extra capacity, but I believe it may have some drawbacks in performance.

I may be wrong but I believe you're able to use any configuration of RAM sticks and get Dual Channel speeds so long as they're installed right. Two 2GB Sticks with two 4GB sticks running in their right slots.

In your case you'll likely have to forfeit the speed bonus of running them in Dual Channel because you'll be introducing a third stick with no stick to pair it with.

In any case, YES. Adding another 4GB stick of RAM in one of your slots will definitely work.
But if you'd like to get the best performance perhaps fixing what's stopping you from using your last slot of ram and adding a 2x2 kit in would be your best option to get 12gb.

Its the interference from the cooler that is blocking my way to the first RAM slot. However as you described I could go for a different type of RAM (physically).

Anyway as you can see from the above posts, my best option would be to adjust the fan that is attached to the cooler. I know it is adjustable, so i guess if i move that up alittle I will have enough clearance to fit the exact type of RAM.

Either way, thanks to all, I should be able to work it out.

Cheers
