Mechanical Keyboard for a Complete Noob

Hey guys,

Looking for some sort of direction from people who have actually used/had experience with mechanical keyboards.

I've done a bunch of research and the whole bunch of different types, brands and prices is a little daunting.

I generally do a lot of word processing (a direct result of being a college student) and I don't game TOO much , just a few RTS games every now and then.
When I type, I use a lot of force and hit my keys pretty hard.

Based on the stuff I've read everywhere, it seems that I should be looking at Cherry MX Blue switches. Is this an accurate conclusion?

And also, what are some good sub $150 keyboards with blues (or whichever switch you think is better for the above usage).

There are so many options out there I have no idea where to start.
I should probably also mention that I'm totally new to mechanical keyboards (i.e. this would be my first mechanical keyboard.)

Thanks for any help in advance.

Word of mouth has it that the Duck Shine II's are very nice. They come in many different switch types. Blue switches are for the people that type a lot.

Here is the sticky to help out in case you have not seen it yet:

I have to admit though, the Ducky II is a great keyboard, but it costs more because of the back-lit keys. If you want a no-frills typing keyboard, there are cheaper alternatives.

I definitely read the guide as part of my research into mechanical keyboards.

If you don't mind my asking, what are some of the cheaper no frills alternates?

I ask because I pretty much never have to type in the dark and don't need features like the Das' USB hub etc.
I literally just want to upgrade from a cheap $30 keyboard and was told that a mechanical is a good investment to make.

Do you need a numpad? If you don't, the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid is a very cheap and high quality keyboard that comes with multiple switch options.

but it's clearly overbranded, so that might be a problem smile.gif

$89 or $78.99 used at Amazon

Solid construction, no frills, gets the job done.

Blackwidow would be cheaper, although some complain of build quality.

The suggestion above my post is quite decent, too.
