It was inevitable that newer processors would eventually be better biggrin.gif

Damn this is still alive! Good!

I'm having very bad sudden shutdowns lately frown.gif. At first it seemed it was my boot drive (SSD) because when the system rebooted it wouldn't be detected anymore, and in fact it did die a week after I replaced it with another SSD. I also swapped to win 10 and it seemed to work fine for a while.

But the last 3 weeks have been getting worse and worse. Shutdowns when watching youtube on Opera. Then when doing CPU intensive tasks. But yesterday... just out of the blue.

BTW using E-Leet I'm getting 4.37V on the 5V line !!! BIOS reports same Voltage too. But Using the SAME PSU on another motherboard gives me no problems... wth? I also checked with a PSU tester and I do get 5V.

Suggestions frown.gif?

but with the SR-2 you can overclock.... 12 cores running at 4.2ghz and my coolers are cheep cooler master coolers, got them like 25$ a pice. my cpu's make the poorly threaded applications happy as well. also i can run thoes dumb amd physics demos smoothly off my cpu no ati card needed.. although i will admit, when i had 2 L5506's running at 2.8ghz that was totally different story. games that only supported single core cpu's were varry bottle necked and in games like garrys mod i ended up with like 30fps instead of somthing well over 100. but modern games like GTA V witch are properly threaded barly stress my old l5506's (im still using them on a HP server bord

thats my secondary gaming rig, operation cheep the only part i bought instead of having laying around with heat sinks and motherboard. 130$ total spent.)

I'm dreaming of upgrading from my L5640's to some X5680's, but since I'm having trouble keeping the SR-2 stable I dunno if I should take the risk

As mentioned before, BIOS and E-LEET report ~4.5V on the 5V line, with BOTH PSUs, and testing with a PSU tester and a multimeter both give 5V...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Try to go with x5675. They should give similar performance for cheaper. It terms of reading I know that ram voltage has never been to point(sr2 always ads 0.03V +)

I would suggest instead getting a pair of x5675's, since together they will cost you less than one x5690 and only lose 1x max multi.

Most of these boards can do 170 FSB (I think?) and give you 4.4Ghz, assuming you get lucky with good chips (unlike me), but I don't think an x5690 will be any better at getting that speed.

Anything over 185 FSB (on slower cpu chips) and my onboard sound is completely gone and half my RAM is missing. However, there is a lot of variation with this board performance wise.

I'll check ebay for X5675 then smile.gif. Lowest X5680 I've seen was like $140 but lasted a day or so.

About the voltage yeah I know it's not precise but 4.5V instead of 5V is too weird and I don't know if it's the cause of all damn shutdowns.

I got the mobo stable on the weekend lowering RAM voltage to 1.55V (I ran them at 1.65V before but they're factory 1.5V), but yesterday it started shutting down again WTH...

I always run my ecc ram at 1.55 as they are rated at 1.58 max and because sr2 ads 0.03 more 1.55 it is. Check if your ram are rated at 1.65. Have you visually assessed the motherboard?

I had random shutdowns because there was an issue with my previous PSU (main power cable had loose wire). Somehow it was keeping the loud obnoxious mobo fan from getting power and the L5520 was overheating and the computer would freeze randomly. But if you have a water block that couldn't be an issue.

Yeah I don't see anything weird. At first I thought it was an SSD because upon auto rebooting it kept disappearing. It finally died. Put a new SSD in there and it was stable for some days then reboots again...

Last night I set ALL voltages/multipliers to AUTO, except RAM which I set to 800Mhz. It remained stable but I wonder how much it'll last

I was checking some images in my desktop and saw some JPGs where I was able to OC up to 3.4Ghz some years ago (it's 2.26 stock). Now damn thing won't even OC past 2.7. It's running at stock speed for now.
