Need help choosing headphones.

Thread Starter
My wife currently is finishing her PHD, we both share a office at home and I like to game on the weekends and she studies at the same time. I need headphones that allow me to play with her in the same room. I have seen many people recommend the AD700's What are everyones thoughts?

I game more then I listen to music sometimes I do both at the same time.

budget 100-150$ rather keep it closer to 100$

I am using the on board (asus rampage Extreme IV) sound card

Thanks

I don't see a sound card listed for your rig. Are you using onboard?

Yes I am using the onboard. I orderd the AD700 and they just got here. I didn't realize the are so open my wife can hear everything. Which completely defies the point of me having these in the first place.

Can anyone make any other suggestions.

AD700 is an open-back headphone. You want closed-back.

If you're willing to spend slightly more, it's hard to go wrong with the ATH-M50. They're the best all-around'er I've listened to for the price. Nothing annoys me more than a pair of cans having too much/boomy bass or not enough bass, and they seem to be just right.

If you want the straight-corded version, get the ATH-M50s (s - straight).

What is the comfort level? I plan on using these in peroids of 2-4 hours at a time.

Also how does it compare to the AD700? I wouldn't mind going up to the 150$ range if its a good set.

The headband is a little firm, but I wear them for that long pretty much every day. You may get slightly sore at first, but that fades.

You could always pad them if it becomes a problem.

I don't have any experience with the AD700, but M50 is pretty recommended in general. I highly doubt you wouldn't like their sound.

If you like the sound of the AD700, you might as well get the A700 closed-back version like Zero said though. Just know that they may not sound exactly the same. The closed back will color the sound a little, though it may not be much.

You picked up the AD700 which are specifically the open versions of the art series. A700/A700x/A900/A900x are the closed versions.

Do you like them aside from the openness? If so, assuming you ordered from amazon, return it and get a A700 to replace it.

I ordered from Amazon. I like the comfort level, bass level is a little low. I would like to use them for more then just gaming.

Closed cans by design have increased bass. Pick up a a700 or a700x, you should be happy.
