Basking in the RASA glory for a bit too long

Thread Starter
So I've had my RASA 240 kit for about 2 years and today the pump failed. I was looking up on Jab-tech and see that they've released the Raystorm. Not sure if it's really worth upgrading my waterblock or just doing a pump res combo. I don't know what would be the best bet but they wanted $140 for just a pump res combo on jab and I could buy a whole raystorm kit at that price. Heck then I could even do a 2 rad setup.

What I want to know is should I just buy a new pump/res (different brand) and keep what I have... recommendations on this for a good pump that will last.

or buy a new full kit. Honestly, I'd rather not...I'm very happy with the rasa and would just like to upgrade the pump and res... to something better than what came with the kit... a good pump please and a large res... similar in size to what kame with the 240RS kit.

2 years is a good life though... What are the chances that the CPU is done because it overheated? I7 2600k

Thanks for the help...

I would just get a new pump/res. Seems like all you should need. Hit up frozencpu and read the reviews on pumps.

If the motherboard or some other software shut it down, your 2600k should be fine.

a couple of degrees difference would be hopeful on the RASA to Raystorm swap.
replace the pump and go on your merry way.. the only reason to "upgrade" would
be a larger system part (more waterblocks) that'd strain the system. if you were
satisified with the performance, watet pump it and enjoy..

If you want to save money then buy used. I'm actually selling a bayres with a DDC pump. Would be more than enough for your CPU loop and wicked cheap. PM me if you want to talk.

I agree, second hand is probably your best option, if spending $150 or so doesn't agree with you. But that is the price of a new, quality, pump, something the stock RASA pumps were lacking. If you want new, though, I would say splash the extra money for a D5 or DDC pump and res, that way you'll never need another new pumps. Both those options are known for being reliable performers.

Well my I7 is ok. I threw her on the stock cooler last night.

I am still trying to figure out what res I want to go with and what pump.

I will run it on air for the next two weeks... to order parts and get the money.

Need to do some research on good pumps and good reservoirs I guess.

Some links if you guys have suggestions on what I should do.

My budget is $200 and I'm willing to spend it all.

For pumps you really only have a couple of recommended options. They are, namely, D5 derivatives and DDC derivatives. The MCP35X comes quite highly recommended, it has PWM control built in. As does the D5 vario model, with manual speed control. These are both the two most popular pumps in the watercooling community. It's also worth noting that there are probably a good half dozen companies who sell these pumps with their own name on it, but if they are one of these pumps they will serve you well. biggrin.gif

As for reservoirs, it depends, do you want a bay mount or one that you can mount inside your case?
