Razer or CoolerMaster - On the Fence

Hey guys!
I've been viewing the keyboard thread topic a lot recently and the mechanical keyboard guide for a looong time now and I thought it would be a good time to make an account to ask some of you pros some questions. smile.gif

I am in consideration about buying a mechanical keyboard and at the moment it appears to be a toss up between the 'Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Tournament Edition' and the 'CoolerMaster Storm Quickfire Rapid'. Both of these have blue switches from what I read but they some people say that the Blackwidow TE is more similar to a brown. Can anyone comment on this?

I would also like to ask,is there anything that sets these two keyboards apart that would make me go for that keyboard more? I have been reading up extensively and so far nothing has swayed me to one side or another yet.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I don't see why the razer tournament edition would be similar to the browns, both are tactile and clicky switches hence they should feel similar aside from some subtle differences due to the keycaps and the plate mounting and all. That aside despite the blackwidow tkl looking badass I would have to say that the cm storm board is of much higher quality that comparable to filco.thumb.gif

Neither. Get a Filco.

+1 for Filco if you can afford it. There is a definite difference in feel between the Black Widow and the Filco despite both using the same switches, and I much prefer the Filco. Feels way more solid and smoother.

The Quickfire Rapid is made by the same OEM as Filco, and it's a really well regarded keyboard. Right now I'm typing on my first mechanical keyboard the CM Quickfire Pro with the partial LEDs which I understand doesn't quite have the build quality of even the Rapid but it's still by far the nicest keyboard I've used.

I think one thing to keep in mind is a lot of people will suggest a really high end keyboard or an expensive one but the quality step up from say a typical rubber dome to the $50-$60 Rapid is still an amazing step up. From there you can make a step up to an even nicer keyboard if you please and you'll probably appreciate the upgrade a bit more.

This will be my first mechanical keyboard so I would really prefer to keep it on the "cheap" side. I would definitely get a filco as my primary keyboard but not as my first mechanical as I need to try out a couple of switches before deciding on which one I prefer.
Does anyone have a Blackwidow TE that can comment?

The quickfire is just a rebranded filco. Get the CM Storm in my opinion, they are very good for a company that just started, I had a Trigger for a few days and I was not really happy with the LED brightness, I wanted something like the Ducky Shine brightness, so I called up CM, asked them what adapter to get and they recommended my some adapter online. Their staff are very friendly as well so good god CM Storm smile.gif

Never get a Razer keyboard as they break easily, I had a BlackWidow, broke within weeks. The only good keyboard that Razer actually came up with is the Anansi, friend has one he love it, im okay with it but I sorta like the thumbpad thing which is useless for me as I play fps tongue.gif

Good decision, seeing as you live in the UK I think Scan UK is your best bet, it cost me a fortune to order from them cause they only accept bank transfer for over seas orders and my bank thinks it's ok to charge 30 euros for a bank transfer -.-

Personally I'm going for red but that's something you have to decide, I will strongly suggest you only get the rapid fire or the trigger, it's just people prefer boards made by co-star and those two are. The major difference between the boards imo is the rapid fire uses co-star metal stabilizers and the trigger uses cherry stabilizers. This is just preference.
I "only" see them offered in reds, browns and blacks, this total preference, if you like to type and like the clicking tactile feel then blues are the best.
This is something you have to decide for yourself, no one can tell you which type to get.

other 2 aren't in stock atm. If you don't mind the US layout, then you could order from murica but dunno which ones do international shipping.
