AMD FX-6100 safe operating temps inquiry

Thread Starter
Now I currently have a 4.2Ghz OC on my FX-6100 with just simple multiplier OCing. I have max temps of 56-57C at the highest peak in Prime 95. I followed Sins guide here on Overclock.net and it did me well but there seems to be alot of jumping around when it comes to safe temps with this cpu. Im trying to get a good general idea of where I can sit on temps for a 24/7 OC hoping that I can OC this beast a little bit more.

I have a Coolermaster 212 Evo with a push/pull setup and great case air flow so Im willing to experiment a bit more with my OC. Id like to get opinions on what kind of temps I can aim for and be safe with on this CPU.. The most stressful thing I do on my system is BF3 so if it runs a tad hot in Prime 95 Im pretty sure it wont reach those temps when gaming BF3. Let the opinions flow.

I have a nice super thin layer of Arctic Silver 5 on it. I am somewhat of a perfectionist so I honestly dont think it could be any more efficient than it is without water cooling ^^.

I know the FX-6100 has a max temp of 70C. Like I said its currently at 55-57 at its hottest in Prime 95 at 4.2Ghz. Post 4.2Ghz it seems to jump quite a bit more than pre 4.2Ghz. Concidering that I will never reach 60C with how I run my computer and BF3 being the largest stress it will have can I not run a bit hot in Prime and be ok for every day use?

yes there really is nothing thats going to stress your cpu more then prime 95..so if it passes prime for a few hours then it will be fine everywhere else...did you play with your volts to see if you can get the temp a little lower?

Sure did, as Sins guide "guides" you you basically set your OC on the multiplier then drop your vcore slowly until you fail to post and then increase inch by inch till you are able to run Prime 95 stable. Its as low as it will get. So your saying yes it would be ok to be 60-65C in Prime and stable then run that in a real world scenario 24/7 and be stable and under 60C?

when you oc..you raise your volts..i never lower them..lowering them will increse you temps as to much will also..and yes your temps are good.as no real world apps will stress your cpu like prime does..

I think you misunderstood. When I do the OC I set my OC and then slowly lower voltage until I fail to post and then raise them back up until it runs stable. Sometimes you can get a stable OC by undervolting as well.

And Im still not to sure I understand you correctly. I CAN ran 60-65C tops in prime for 8 hours and that will be ok due to the fact real world application will obviously be lower?

I tried for 4.3Ghz but it went to 70 during prime and thats the max temp so I shut it down. Unfortunately as it is I think im stuck at 4.2 with my cooler because I obviously cant stress test long enough to know if its stable before it hits max temp.
