replacement for hd 4850?

Thread Starter
I would like to replace my hd 4850 card for something that will bring better points. I have been looking at the points spreadsheet and the hd 7850 looks pretty good and is around $200. I would like any opinions on if this would be my best bet or if there would be a better card for the price range?

For $200? 7850 is your best bet. Overclocked it can beat a 6970 or 570

I looked at the 7870 and the 7970 and I am don't think my 650w power supply will be enough? it's an Antec Earthwatts 650w, Do you think it can handle one of the other ones?

AMD says that it will work if you will run one 7970. For two 7970s, 850W+ is recommended.

850W power supply (or greater) with two 150W 8-pin and two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology.

Also, I have run BOINC on an HD6990 on an older edition of the Antec 650 watt EarthWatts line of power supplies last year and had no issue with it smile.gif
