PPTX file is giving an error and can't be opened.

Sorry if I'm on wrong section but it's a serious mess over here.
I prepared a presentation file on MS PowerPoint 2010 on my Windows 7 laptop last week. Everything was fine there before yesterday. But now the .pptx file can't be opened. It stops me with this: "PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close". I know this is an error but really don't know how it took place! Does anyone have any idea for this situation. I haven't backed up the file, so no beter chance for restoring. Any help, please!

Yes, you are actually out of track. But it doesn't matter. The error you are getting means the PPTX file is damaged. You need to fix this corruption or need to repair the corrupt file. I have already made answer for this type of problem. You can find it here: thread.
Or if you wish you can read this article.
Hope this will help. If you want to know something more you can ask me. thumb.gif

Yeah, thanks for linking me the article.
Is this the only way to fix this situation? I mean, do I have to spend money on it or is there any free one?

I'm sorry but I didn't get you. I have mentioned four ways to fix this situation. But unfortunately as you haven't backed up your file so you have only three. Have you tried to repair your corrupt file by using inbuilt repair function of MS PowerPoint? If not then you must try. thumb.gif

Well, now you have only two option: just try locate the TMP file of that PPTX presentation or get a third-party recovery tool for MS PowerPoint PPTX recovery. A tool is mentioned in the article I linked you earlier. Just check it. Click here on this link.

Also, as a suggestion, it might be worth trying to open it in open office... it might have some tricks up its sleeve for opening corrupt files thumb.gif

Well, thanks for your suggestion. I have already tried to open my file in OpenOffice Impress, but no luck. Anything else you can suggest here before going for any other third-party tool?

Hey naturula, the utility is nice. But I want to know is there any free tool or method to fix this corrupt PowerPoint file before going for it?
