I thought details might have been available on the sensor at least.

Razer/Avago project/deal. Not even competitors of other brands know much about this design.

I wonder if I should maybe return my DeathAdder Black Edition then. It's just turned up and seems to be malfunctioning at high speeds:

My old DeathAdder BE (pre-ordered launch unit) did not malfunction like this.
The wheel design seems to have been updated (an improvement) and the feet are softer than the old ones.

My old 1800 OG deathadder has just developed a fault where the side button has become inconsistent in working. Loved the Deathadder so am going to be a new one but with the 4G not even announced, looks like I'll have to get a black edition.

Don't go for the Black Edition if you have dry hands. My hands almost never sweat and I can't grab the BE as good as the normal glossy one. The glossy one lifts easily while I get cramps with the BE because I need to put up a lot of force with my pinky.

Also: DA with DPI switch? Finally!

+1 to this, I went from an original DA to a BE - returned it the next day; could not grip/ lift it for the life of me!

At the time the Da was released the shape was outstanding, by today there are many alternatives. Times change.

The DeathAdder shape is still the only one which doesn't cause me wrist pain, finger pain, or hand cramps after using it all day for weeks at a time. Any other mouse I've bought has started to cause me problems after a month or two, if not sooner. (some mice I can't even use all day without problems)

Everyone else seems to have much stiffer switches as well, which is a real problem for me.

It's too bad you can't get that type of grip without a surface finish that results in fingerprints everywhere though. Well, at least if they insist on a black mouse. White or other lighter colors look much better with glossy finishes.

I have dry hands, and personally I like the fact that it doesn't stick to my hand when using it though, but I don't really lift my mouse much at all. (and never found it to be a problem when I do)

I do like the look of the new shell though, it seems like it won't stick to your hands the way that glossy plastic does, but will offer more grip than the Black Edition.

Never really seen the point of a DPI switch, seems like a wasted button to me. I'm never switching DPI in the middle of playing a game. I'd much rather have driver software that switched DPI automatically depending on the game being played. I tend to stick to 1600 DPI 90% of the time now anyway. (and the lowest sensitivity ingame)

Well if you got the cash you can get Avago to whip you up a better sensor. The other guys get the left overs.

If you get the BE you can use some clear tape for the sides and the back. It works for me. At first it may not have much grip, but after you get some more moisture in your hands it starts to act like a glossy mouse.

Do you hold the mouse so that the sensor is aligned perfectly or do you hold the mouse as the shape dictates? I hold all mice with the sensor aligned to get the best accuracy. Doing that with the DeathAdder for a prolonged time is very much unpleasing to the hand and wrist. I only use the DeathAdder because of the sensor. I would never buy one again if there was a mouse that had the same level of performance. At this point I cannot stand using it any longer, so I have compromised performance for comfort with the Zowie EC Evo.

Does the button on the bottom of the mouse even do anything without the drivers?

It's more about sales and pushing product. Deathadder is one of those mice that sell very well.
