There is no RAM slot. Yes it could be changed but it wouldn't be something an end user would do. The ram is a shared resource between the GPU and CPU and is on package. Your not changing it biggrin.gif
Yes I read it and no not since it launched, I wasn't too interested in it though at the time since it was a bit weak for anything I'd want to do.

It's not stupid since it make sense to protect users from pre-boot attack vectors (i.e. rootkits).

Linux has announced a possible solution for distros that are not getting their own certificates. They will used a signed bootloader that they will provide. A informational screen will appear informing the user of the insecure boot and then this will load a second bootloader.

How about installing Windows 8 (ARM) on one of these? Possible via an SD card?

It's been stated that Windows 8 won't be supported on the Pi due to inadequate hardware (Cortex-A9 CPU and above only) plus the fact that Windows RT is still restricted to use on approved tablets. Until RT gets released as an image that can be installed like all the other versions we have to use other OS's.
Ubuntu isn't supported for the same reason even though there are ARM images available (just not ARM11 images).

Raspbian (Raspberry Pi optimized version of Debian) offers just about everything you can realistically do with the Pi plus it's a Linux distro (though you do have to recompile all of your programs to work with ARM11).

I don't know how reliable the RK3066 is nor do I know how well optimised their version of Android is (4.1.1)
In China the MK808 has barely any use as not many people have an HDTV and it's adoption isn't at lightning speed. If it had some other form of connectivity other than HDMI I would have considered it myself but most people here have no need for a media consumption device such as this and those who do have a tablet.
I was looking at Rasberri Pi and that other similar thing with A10 + Mali 400 for 50$ today and was thinking on the similar lines - so I went out and tried to find out how cheap can you get an HDMI to VGA converter - apparently you can get one for approx 11 $ from eBay. While it increases the price of system substantially (11$ is a lot if your machine is costing only ~35 .. 40$) it still means that you can get more or less functional system for approx 50$ (would need some kind of display, keyboard, mouse and an USB charger capable of providing approx 1A at 5V for getting it run).

Overall I'm somewhat interested - one can do pretty neat stuff on a cheap computer afterall.
