I'd test your fps in that game and see if it's low. If your system is older and the enemy’s system is better at reducing input lag then you will have a tough time.
In any case, I think it may also be user error in that you need to get better at the game.

You say in any game but your citing a FPS? What game are you talking about? Is it Battlefield 3? Have you taken a look at your FOV settings?
TF2, Counter Strike (Source, GO), Battlefield 3... etc... All time i play with the highest fov in games.

FPS are good (200 or simillar), sometimes they kill me when i see them behind a box for example, and I should watch them out of the box.
