[SA] Will Nvidia make a consumer GK110 card?

There has been a lot of speculation about Nvidia's GK110 GPU, specifically whether it will end up on the desktop or not. The short answer is that yes, it will.

SemiAccurate moles are saying that as of the latest roadmap update handed out about to weeks ago, there is a GeForce based on GK110. This was not the case on any prior roadmap, and it has some very interesting implications. If you are thinking that I mean upsetting the GPU performance ladder, that has nothing to do with it, GK110 is going to underperform expectations on the desktop because it is an HPC chip, not a gaming chip.

Been saying this for a while. It was pretty evident, with GK104, that nVidia decided to separate their HPC and gaming lines in order to excel in each area. Whether or not this was out of necessity still remains questionable.

I would like to point out that we have no idea what these expectations are tongue.gif

NV is most likely having yield and leakage problems resulting in chips that can't be clocked high.

...it's not self-evident.

1) NVIDIA reduced the FP64 performance on prior chips before. See: GF100/110 vs GF104.
2) Consumer/gaming products subsidize HPC/enterprise/workstation products. (See: Xeon, Opteron, Quado/Tesla, Firestream/Pro, etc)

I don't get all the rage about this GK110 chip. Someone call me a noob and tell me why it is so popular to discuss?

Semiaccurate is hungry for page hits. Spreading nonsense rumors with these articles. All his sources probably some imaginary friends.
This is just like his Kepler banter he told about Magical PhysX blocks, that will put AMD cards completely out of business. LoL. biggrin.gif
6 months later see where we are. AMD has the performance crown and 1st choice of enthusiasts when it comes to OC.

Apparently you don't see "where we are". Which performance crown do you refer to, exactly?
