[SA] Will Nvidia make a consumer GK110 card? - Page 2

I think he's referring to the fact that over clocked 7970's beat voltage-locked 680's in most games...

Well, that's a no brainer now....

I am a die hard Nvidia user, and even i will tell people to buy 7970's. They are better cards for the money before and after the voltage fiasco with Nvidia. And when it comes to surround/eyefinity. AMD is simply better across the board......at least with this generation anyway.

And the 7970's are cheaper to boot. Since the performance is pretty close at stock, and the 7970 takes it overclocked, it makes the 7970 look very enticing for enthusiasts.

The GTX 680 is based on the GK104 GPU.... based on the naming convention, this is a mid-level chip. So the excitement is about the fact there's a better model out there.

So by the time this chip is in a consumer graphics card, we'll already be on to similar, if not better things on a new gen. Good thing Big Kepler was gonna spank the 7900 series rolleyes.gif (obviously referring to the discussions happening before the 600 series came out)

GK110 biggest impact will be GPGPU though.... Nvidia hasn't released a new FP64 heavy card in over a year now. The market is hungry.

TSMC have had big problems with their 28nm process and their costumers have suffered, not only Nvidia.

GK 104  296 mm2

GF 110  520 mm2

GK 110  600 mm2 ?

I wonder where GK114 will be?

Yea, I was thinking that might have been the case a while back, but figured I'd be wrong. Was very surprised when the 680 was rumored to be 104. At that point I thought the 600/7000 series were going to be very short gens and we'd have the 700/8000 series in about 8 months rather than a year or so.

Seems like a bitter pill to swallow.
