Tips on what lens I should get

Hey fellas, I'm an amateur photographer, and I want to get more experienced. I really enjoy photography, and I've taken my fair share of good photographs.

I just wanted to know what anyone could suggest for me to go for when I want to buy a new lens? I have a Canon Rebel T2i and I only have a stock lens, the only upgrade I technically have is a battery grip but that doesn't affect the pictures.

I really enjoy macro photography as well as nature photography, what lens could someone recommend to satisfy the things I like to photograph or what lens would be good as a second lens from a stock lens?

Would a zoom lens be any good?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. biggrin.gif

other than macro photography can you be more specific about what part of nature you like to photograph?

which stock lens do you have the 18-55 or the 18-135?

Uhm, I guess it really doesn't matter, but something on the less expensive side, as these are just tips.

17-40L. You can find them used for less than $650 on forums.

i personally don't see the value of a 17-40mm L on an apsc sensor body. Besides having a constant aperture, it doesn't offer anything past his kit lens in terms of focal length.

last question to OP, where does the kit lens fall short? Do you want bigger close up on stuff? Or do you want to be able to zoom if from further away?

Uhh, yeah I have animals (that run away if i get too close) on my farm and unreachable places so a further zoom would be nice.

A Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM sounds kinda like what you are looking for. Longer focal length and can focus in tight with small objects for macro shots.

the first 2 that come into my mind are

24-105mm f4 L - great all around lens, decent macro ability ( with cropping ), good zoom. Super sharp. Minimum Focus Distance is 1.5ft Around 700-800 used

70-300mm IS USM - good zoom, a lil bit slow on the aperture, but if you're outside you should have tons of available light. Min Focus Distance is 5ft. Around 300-340 used
