Cannot seem to find the HPTC software right for me....

Thread Starter
I have built my HTPC and I have created a mirrored array of drives with my movie library on them.

I want to be able to plug into this PC via HDMI into my SMART TV in my office as well as stream it to another non SMART TV in the house a couple rooms down

It also needs to be able to be controlled via some form of media center remote from the other room.

Netflix capability is also a plus

What software will be able to do this?

I tried XMBC but it crashed often with a "run time assertion error..." when opening some of my movies.

XBMC would be my vote for sure. I use its along with wmc for live TV. Have you tried troubleshooting xbmc? Whatever the problem is I would head over to their forums and ask for help. Great supportive community.

Do you by chance have an android tablet or phone? There's a VLC app that sync's to your pc over wifi that both let's you stream anything (even MKV's) to your phone/tablet, but also use your phone/tablet as a remote control for vlc, including browsing through your files to find what you're wanting to play. It's really freakin cool imo. I've been using it alot, since VLC is super lightweight and plays anything under the sun. As for netflix, there's oddly enough no good solution for playback on a PC. They've yet to offer a dedicated desktop app for it, so you're pretty much limited to using it in your browser with ye ol' mouse and keyboard.

Yeah that vlc app is cool. I use netflix . There is a plugin that integrates it into windows media center works flawlessly.

You can use xbmc and have it open files in an external player mpc/vlc... When vid closes, xbmc is still up, so pretty decent solution. just google 'external player xbmc'... first couple links have guides.
