Hey, everyone, I just wanted to chat with anyone using that RAMDISK software and see how y'all are using it and what results you're getting if any. I just simply used 2 gig out of my 8 gig of 1866 hyper-x on my desktop and I set aside 1 gig of my wife's 4 gig on her laptop to see how it does. It's just set up as a "fat 32" partition used to "speed up my system" as windows says when a new disk is installed. Let me know guys how it works for y'all and I'll post benchmarks and reviews from the old lady on how it works on our setups. Thanks!! thumb.gif

I installed that Dataram-AMD-branded thing and moved my temp/tmp and internet cache to it. My system actually became slower and I'm not sure why. I have a feeling I set it up wrong and formatted wrong as well.

I know it should speed things up. Will have to try other software.

Yeah, I read on the setup document something about using it that way but wasn't totally sure about it so I just used it for testing purposes as a hybrid flash drive or flash ssd...lol. I didn't like the risk of losing important information or settings due to the fact that I restart my system alot. It did take 10 minutes off my nero vision movie backup and brun times so far so I'm probably going to go ahead and allocate 4 gig to it and run it again to see what happens.

Use it as temp folder, or use it for Internet cache.

Also if your experimenting with ram disks and caches check out FancyCache which is still in Beta so its free.

Yeah I'm using RAMDisk as a temp location. I've recently reinstalled my operating system to a solid state drive, and I'm trying to stay cleaner and more organized with my data this time around. Usually I find myself using it as an extract directory for when I'm just going to run an installer from the extracted file. Works great. And no loose data lying around after a reboot.

That is a good way to use the program, and since the info isn't needed permanent anyway, it's good that it's self-cleaning. Thanks! I have been running some tests to see what kind of difference, if any, using different speeds make when running programs that utilize the RAMDISK software. We'll see...

What programs woul utilize it though out side of Internet cache and temp files and extraction software??

Personally, I have found that on my system, it works best as just a simple "boost" drive . You know, the one where windows 7 comes on the screen after you finish running the RAMDISK software, and it asks you whether you want to use it to speed up your system or not. Since I never use more than 5 gigs of ram anyway, really, it's just using space that wouldn't have been used for anything anyway. I have noticed a 4 to 6 minute increase in my nero vision conversion and burn times on movies and a increase in loading times for basic programs using it that way. Just make sure when you run RAMDISK that you use fat 32 instead of 16 and set aside at least 2 to gigs for it up to a max of 4 gigs. (6 igs if you have actual AMD memory). Then as soon as you're done windows will ask you if you want to use it to speed up your system.

Great suggestion, thanks, I'm going to try that now. thumb.gif

( edit )

Reading more and putting it to use it actually seems to help some but not much. I'm trying a temp/internet cache now with it. redface.gif

Yeah, I think that it may have variables that I probably don't understand yet, but I'm just going to let it use 4 gigs of memory that I wouldn't have used anyway to help speed up my video editing processes. As soon as I get the OCZ Synapse delivered, combining that caching ssd with the RAMDISK should really make this thing zippier.
