Where can I get replacement thermal pads for my 8800GTS?

Thread Starter
I took the stock heat sink off my 8800GTS and noticed there were a number of old thermal pads stuck to it. I'd like to replace them before re-attaching the heat sink, but I can't find a place to buy the replacements.

The pads look to be 5-6mm thick, but I can only find replacement pads that are <3mm thick.

Too thin actually. I'm looking for thicker pads.

A sheet of these seems ideal, but FrozenCPU is sold out.

Would it be OK to use a double-layer of thinner pads?

There is no way that the pads are that thick! Do not put those on your GPU, you'll burn it up. If it's for an 8800GTS, you'll probably be looking at 1.5mm pads.

I wouldn't.

If 5mm is good enough for you ebay has a lot however that seems quite thick for a GPU...

I measured it with a ruler at 4mm, but they looked a little squished.

The pads look like they are over the vram - the GPU itself uses thermal grease.

*edit*
After a couple hours of searching, I think I found something that will work:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thermal-Conductive-Pad-for-Elestonics-3cmx3cmx5mm-T-/350346854520?pt=US_Thermal_Compounds_Supplies&hash=item51924cc078

I was really hoping to avoid ebay.

Your thermal pads should only be 1mm-1.5mm for that GPU. You're going to destroy your card if you attempt to install 5mm thick pads.

Is it possible the pads got stretched when I removed the heatsink? I've measured them and they are much thicker than 1.5mm.

They're not over the GPU itself, there's grey TIM between the GPU and copper heatsink, rather the pads connect the VRAM to the portion of the radiator that's raised to accommodate the capacitors and such.

I would not bother replacing them if it is just the ram - unless i teared them up etc and was sure those are ruined.

If I had to replace them I would do a test fit and eyeball the gap if I had too, or cut little cardboard pieces and glue them together till I got a tight fit and gauge from those.

If I could find no pads the size I wanted, I would probably leave them out completely, and tie-zip-mod-mount a 80mm fan or sth like that blowing through the heatsink / above the RAM chip area. The latter would probably be better to boot with, and would help the card as a whole to stay cooler. RAM Heatspreaders are overrated imho. Companies use them more as a cool eyecandy/selling point than actually must have cooling assisting device - evident by the sub-optimal TIM choices (6mm pads...pfff) and/or the absence of perf. loss when heat spreaders are removed. "The Mod" with closed loop coolers can keep up 580s running great or better without RAM HS with the assistance of a fan which is again probably more needed for the VRMs than RAM, system RAM rarely has diminished O/C potential with HS removed etc.
