Where can I get 6mm thick replacement thermal pads for my GPU?

Thread Starter
I took the stock heat sink off an old GPU and noticed there are some ~6mm thick thermal pads stuck to it.

Anyone know where I can buy replacements? All that I seem to be able to find are pads that are <3mm thick.

Is it OK to buy 3mm pads and just stack them one on top the other to get the desired thickness?

What gpu? I've never seen thermal pads that thick before, if it really is that thick stacking pads would be about the only way.

It's an 8800GTS, and the pads are over the vram. I measured them with a ruler at 4mm, but they look squished.

FrozenCPU is sold out. Ebay has some, but I was hoping to avoid ebay.

Are you certain they are 6mm thick? Were they clearly labeled to be 6mm thick? Or are you guessing? Did you measure them? I think after they are compressed they become less thick so it would be hard to measure a used thermal pad and come up with accurate measurements to what they may have been before they were used.

Is there anything getting in the way of putting the heatsinks directly on the chips? I mean, there would be much better thermal conductivity if you just slap a little thermal paste on and forget the pads. I don't see anything getting in the way of doing that, unless the top of the heatsink joins to a larger one to dissipate heat?

I did measure them. The least compressed one was 4mm thick.

The GPU itself connects to the copper heatsink with grey TIM. The pads connect the VRAM to an elevated portion of the stock radiator. There is not enough of a gap between the VRAM and stock radiator to slap on some copper fins, but the gap is wide enough that greasing the VRAM won't work.

So you are guessing. I guess 6mm is a safe size. 5mm may work as well. Going slightly larger sounds safe. Can't be certain unless you know exact size from original build design.

Doubling up may work but not sure how it effects performance.

That ebay stuff looks weak.

I would double up with these http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16734/thr-155/Fujipoly_Premium_Thermal_Pad_-_60_x_50_x_30_-_Thermal_Conductivity_60_WmK.html?tl=g8c487s1711

Looks better than the pads at ebay.

if you have a card that uses paste on the gpu and pads on the vrm, not such a good idea...

to the OP:
How thick are they in the "squished" part? Less than 3mm? If so, use 3mm, because maybe the bits not under compression have bloated. Never seen thermal pad 6mm thick. Something just a bit thicker than the squished bit anyway...
