Does this look compatible? and i'm thinking 700- 800 watt power supply, not sure if i should get more and crank up to 1000 watt. Also is this motherboard decent match for the i7? as far as Video Card I'm looking for 3d capability for home theatre use as well as photoshop some 3d rendering and as gaming platform as well. I'm still shopping for a full size case and thinking about water cooling and a totall newb to it but looks pretty easy........

***** any suggestions /input and guidance is very needed and welcome**** so far system after case and coolers looking at 2500
post #2 of 9
looks good except

downgrade to 3570k
you'll be fine with anything over 600watts for a psu

get a FULLY modular psu, some are semi modular, and you'll wish you opted for a fully modular one in the future

i've heard about problems with the larger capacity drives, so look into that

for some games, gtx 670 outperforms a 7970, so get whichever is cheaper

if 120hz isn't important to you, get one of the korean monitors, best bang for the buck if 120hz isn't important

case: i'm A BIG FAN of 800d and 650d, go with the former if you're watercooling

Cooler: h100 if not watercooling

in my opinion, water cooling isnt that great of an investment.

CPu is ok
MB is ok
Why 32GB of ram? get 8 or 16 max imo
I would look into Sapphire or MSI as far as GPU, the 7970 is a solid choice.
A good branded 750-850w PSU will do you good and leave you room for upgrade.
Make sure to get a SSD, it's the best overall upgrade you can buy. Make sure to browse the SSDs forums for what to get.

Here si a build with dual gpu

Total cost 1684,00 only missing the cooling.

Hello GotDarted.

If you think you'll be hanging on to this machine for another 7-10 years, your best option would be to spend half as much now, and do another build in 3-5 years instead. You'll have an on-average better performing rig over the next decade for the same cost.

That said, if you have money begging to be spent now, the budget you are in has 6-core LGA 2011 X79 build written all over it. The $320 3770K on a near-$400 MOBO is a waste when you could slap the $570 3930K on a ~$200-250 MOBO with similar capabilities to the $390 Z77 board, for a combined cost of only about $60-100 more. There are easy ways to offset this cost difference elsewhere in the build, and the extra 2 cores will actually provide a meaningful increase in compute throughput when you use creation apps.

See this combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1073046
I'd much rather have that configuration, than the Z77 + 3770K that you had planned for slightly less.

You can make up for a chunk of the price difference by dropping to a less expensive memory kit. Since the X79 is quad channel, even a 1333 speed kit would have more bandwidth than the Z77 based rig would with anything under 2666 speeds. Throw a basic 1600-10 kit for ~$150 on the X79 and you'll have more memory bandwidth than a Z77 configuration can achieve with any kit out there. That covers $40 of the price difference right there.

Regards,
Eric

If you want to future proof your computer, you are on the right track. Stick with the 3770k because of the hyperthreading. More and more games and applications will make use of hyperthreading in the future so it is good to have that. Instead of that 3TB HDD, get a 1 or 2 TB one and get an SSD boot drive. It will be a lot more rewarding to do that.

wa th f ar yo tryi t sa?

ACK!!!

The build is looking very good as is. There are ways to cut the cost down but I'm not sure I want to bother trying to cut through the grease on this one.

Sorry Damn tablet deleted every last letter of every word I typed Lmao.. should I stick with the 3930 with the six core or 3770? From what I read the 3930 will out perform the 3770 and then the board speed is better if I'm remembering right... any thoughts? I'm itching to hit that check out button at New egg
post #9 of 9
Idk..for $2500..I'd have to squeeze out a 3930K build.Consider re-thinking your platform?
For RAM..16GB of this stuff would be good:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Memory+%28Desktop+Memory%29-_-SAMSUNG-_-20147096

Videocard..Well XFX is OK..it's sturdy thumb.gif but they gimp the overclocking on it..need Sapphire,MSI,Gigabyte,or Asus there if you want to OC your graphics card.

No ssd? Gotta have ssd.

Welcome to OCN, GotDarted smile.gif
