Mini iTX Web Design/Gaming Machine

It was suggested I post this in here for advice in regards to all the parts, so here it is:

I have been using my Acer 4820TG Laptop for two years now as my primary computer and it is certainly showing its age with its 5650M Mobility. That combined with me entering a program that is built around web design, I wanted to build another computer. My last desktop computer had a Core 2 Duo e4500 and was upgraded to a HD 4850 in it, so that tells you how long its been since I've built one. I want to build something small that I can probably add a handle to later as I do move around quite a bit. The prices listed are what I've found the parts at shipped and here's what I've got so far:

Intel Core i5 3750K - $202
Antec Kuhler H20 620 - $57
ASRock Z77E-ITX - $150
16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X DDR3-1333 CAS 9 - $58
MSI GTX 670 OC - $350
120GB Kingston Hynix 3K - Already Own
Silverstone SG05BB-450 - $87
Monitor TBD

Total: $904 + Monitor

I used to own a similar setup (SG05/3570K/Z77E-ITX/GTX 680) and everything with your build looks great to me. I'm sure you're already aware of this, but you could pick up a 3570K/Z77E-ITX for ~$290 + tax if you live near a Micro Center. Also, check your email because Newegg is running 10% off some Asrock boards and the Z77E-ITX is one of them. The promo code is BTEJNJE46 but I'm almost certain you had to have received an email for it.

Edit: Woah on the Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce. That card is not going to fit into the SG05 without some kind of modifcation, and I'd personally suggest a card with an external exhaust.

Obviously this one won't fit lol
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125449
Will also not fit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125423
May fit, but it'll be close. It's 265mm long and my Evga GTX 680 Signature+ was ~256mm and it was close, but there was a few mm of extra room.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125438

I had to think about it, but the maximum GPU length for the case is 262mm, meaning none of the Windforce GTX 670s will fit. Unless you want to do some case modding or there's a shorter Windforce 670 that I'm not aware of, you're going to have to pick a different card or case.

Looks good but I would go for a BitFenix Prodigy instead of the Silverstone SG05BB-45 and swap out the Antec Kuhler for a Thermaltake Silver arrow sb-e.

Jocelyn: Good call on the graphics card. Perhaps it would be smarter if I grabbed a 1200 or 1080P 24" panel instead and went down to a 660 Ti or something? That or do you have another recommendation of a card under $400? I want to stick with nVidia for CUDA core reasons. Also, I live in Orlando so there's a CompUSA nearby, but no Microcenter.

Bit Reaper: I really don't want to go to a bigger case and I've heard the size of the BitFenix. I have a small car and I'd prefer the size of the SG05 personally. I will look into the cooler option though for sure!

Silverstone SG05BB-450 Dimensions 10.87" x 6.93" x 8.74"

BitFenix Prodigy Dimensions 9.84" x 15.91" x 14.13" (a lot of that comes form the feet/handles)

IMO not that big of a difference but if you got your hart set on a SG05BB-450 the by all means. Just be aware that the SG05BB is really cramped on the inside and will not fit a big cooler like silver arrow. Even the relatively compact Antec Kuhler will be hard to fit. It might collide with the graphics card. While on the subject of graphics cards the SG05BB can fit a 10" even if the CPU use the stock Intel cooler and the 670 Windforce is 11" long. To maximze the space available I would recommend you get a ZOTAC GTX 670 TwinCooler.

Edit: Actually just noticed that the Antec Kuhler will not fit without modding as the drive cage is in the way. So you are going to have to remove that and use velcro or something to mount your SSD.

What about that card? It looks like it exhausts through the back with a high flow vent.

Also Bit Reaper: I'm going to run a SSD and no ODD or HDD's, so I don't mind removing the HD cage. If there's a better solution though, I am all for that. My only other option would be the cheaper CM case, but the quality difference between a Silverstone and CM is tremendous.

It appears this is my goal: http://my.opera.com/nagynorbert/albums/slideshow/?album=10316162&picture=137445912

Well its specs say its 10" long and the SG05BB is advertised as supporting cards up to 10" so it should just barely fit. I would still be a bit worried about the Antec kuhler interfering with it though as 120m radiators are actually slightly larger then 120mm.

That should give me another half inch.

Right now I'm at $1285 shipped after MIR if I buy everything online. I think my local CompUSA will have the 3750K for under $215 though. My goal was under $1300, so far so good.

In my SG05, I have had to take out the ODD and HDD/SDD caddy out to fit the 120mm radiator.

My card is 240mm long and has the PCIE power fitting horizontal! So a 10" card will be no problem, I think a 12" card (with power connectors at the top) probably will squeeze in... but if you need to definitely know then I can measure i later tonight.

I agree that an exhaust fan graphics card would be best... air will come in the side and go straight out and not affect any other bits.

The SG05 will be busy, but not that cramped. I've managed to squeeze a full custom loop in... and I used alot of spare bits from my desktop loops.

For that RAM, I can't recommend 8gb Samsung 30nm enough... you don't need 16gb... except for bragging rights!

Let me know if you need any SG05 help!

Cheers,

DB

Looks like my hunch was correct and the radiator fan and the graphics card do overlap. Good news is that the radiator will fit vertically when all the drive cages are removed and let the graphics card slink in under it (is it me or is that card bent downwards). I would still opt to use the ZOTAC GTX 670 TwinCooler as its only 160mm long (about the same as an ITX mobo) and avoid any possible issues.
