Need some help with hard drive again :P

Thread Starter
So after i installed windows to my SSD , It was the drive that has program files and stuff like that . but my HDD does not , so whenever i install something it will automatically get installed to the SSD instead of thee HDD . Is there anyway of making my HDD the 'maindrive' where everything is installed instead of my SSD as i only want windows and drivers in my SSD .

On the side note , my computer's audio seems so be lagging , im using the hdmi cable to connect my rig to the tv and the audio seems to be laggin when im watching video or hearing music however this does not happen when i use my headphones. Does anyone know why this happens?

Thanks smile.gif

1. Type “regedit” in the start menu search box or in Run dialog box (Win+R) and hit enter to continue.
1a. Make a copy of the registry: Files --> Export --> save
2. Navigate to the following registry key in the Registry Editor:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion
3. Locate the value named “ProgramFilesDir” and change the default value “C:\Program Files” to your new directory path(address).
4. Close the registry editor and reboot your system to apply the change.

In most cases you can chose a custom install and then direct the installation to the drive and folder of your choosing. In some cases you won't be able to.

Additionally, make sure that your video card has the latest drivers and I would try another hdmi cable to see if the problem persists.

Thanks but im not too sure how to follow it ( Im totally lost ) , its kinda confusing wheee.gif i did 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion . But after i found them i got noidea what to do . And may i know where i can find ProgramFilesDir”? and when you say ' to your new directory path ' does it mean i write E:\Program Files instead as my other drive is 'E'

Thanks

Picture of Regedit how-to (Click to show)

Maybe it needs some clarification, when you've located the CurrentVersion path in regedit, you just click on it to highlight, then you should see a screen similar to the picture in the spoiler tag. As said in the pretty picture, you right click the string ProgramFilesDir, choose edit, and enter your desired path, like you said yourself

Personally I would just chose to install it to a different location that way any program you want to install on your SSD can still easily be done. No point in having all your program files on your hard drive. Pretty much any program that will install will have a custom choice option. Also you can move your User files over to your Hard Drive. I keep my desktop, my docs, videos, music, downloads, and whatnot on my Raid that way i'm not wasting SSD space.

I do the exact same thing, but I get the idea that you'd want to keep your SSD clear of waste without having to give a thought to changing directories.

i think i did it properly tongue.gif its basicly looking for the 'ProgramFilesDir' in both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion , click on the 'ProgramFilesDir' and modify it by changing the C:\Program Files (x86) to E:\Program Files (x86) for both of them ?

Yeah, or whatever you want to call that folder smile.gif it doesn't need to have the (x86) suffix, it's just windows telling you that those are 32-bit software. Nothing critical. Restart you PC for the changes to take effect, see if it did what you expected it to by installing a small piece of software (for efficiency's sake) thumb.gif
