On newegg, there are a few options for the 660. If you organize by ratings, the EVGA card comes up first but I assume that that's only because it's a known brand and the number of ratings is similar to other cards. I've heard complaints about the noise generated from the EVGA and I feel like I should go with the Gigabyte instead. What do you think?

Do you mean the GTX 660 or the GTX 660 Ti?

I think the Gigabyte is the best too.
Zotac's card has low rating.
MSI TF has also low rating.
PNY's card is pointless since it is reference just like the EVGA but PNY doesn't have the awesome customer support and service of EVGA .
EVGA is the best if you want a reference design.

But if you are very sensitive to noise and heat, Gigabyte IMHO is the best option.

I bought the Gigabyte 660 for my media center/gaming PC and I have to say that it is indeed VERY quiet. Assuming you have good airflow in your case, the card will be kept nice and cool and not ramp up much in fanspeed (not that it seems to matter anyway as it is inaudible from the ambient noise).

I wouldn't completely discount the Newegg ratings entirely, but I would take them with a grain of salt for the most part. wink.gif

MSi and Gigabyte are safe bets. Both have aftermarket cooling (will be quieter and cooler) and have serial # based warranty's... EVGA does too, just reference cooling.

Why do everyone keep saying that EVGA is reference only, they also have a twin frozer design or more like the XFX Black cards..

Another EVGA's non reference dual fan design..... they come out with a different one almost every generation and they are typically lackluster compared to all the big motherboard manufacturers and the other primarily GPU oriented companies like XFX and Sapphire.

I bought a PNY GTX660 this weekend with a plan to return it for and EVGA when Fry's gets one in stock. I will say this, the PNY runs QUIET. Many NEWEGG reviews say the EVGA semi ref card is loud. I may keep the PNY because it works so well. It is very hard to go wrong buying EVGA though, they set the standard when it comes to customer service.

I think we have all been hypnotized by the EVGA hoopla. tongue.gif I was originally going to return my Gigabyte too in favor of the EVGA flavor, but after using my card all this time, I don't think I will be going to make the return either as it is so darn quiet!

It's sobering to know that there are definitely other brands out there with cards that are just as good, if not better, than just EVGA (not that there is anything wrong with them, of course). Variety and competition is good for all. thumb.gif
