2560x1440 or 5760x1080 ?

Thread Starter
2560x1440 vs 5760x1080 ? Is it better to go for a single 2560x1440 monitor or to go with 3x 1080p monitors at 5760x1080 ? In the past I've had a single 1920x1080 monitor so wouldn't know about either of the above like how will the quality be like? 5760x1080 seems like should have the better quality resolution but then again i could be totally wrong.

1440p will be higher quality, but 5870x1080 will have more screen real estate, and will allow games to show more things as you have "a bigger screen". Quality will be the same as 1080p.

Better resolution for what? Gaming? Video/Picture Editing?

1400p is fantastic for editing.

For everything else, I think I prefer 5760X1080. I need more than one monitor for productivity. I like having 3 for gaming.

Downsides have been hashed a thousand times.

Triple screens is cool but it's a PITA with some games as not much is tailored for surround. It really depends on what your doing, racing simulation sure triple screens is epic and/or if your a massive multi tasker.

I have to say though, i would always prefer a single higher resolution screen over surround. Most monitors in surround are much cheaper quality displays to make such a setup even remotely affordable to most people. Where as a 2560x1440 IPS or PLS display is just beautiful to look at and worth every penny.

1080p is a bit old hat these days imho.

How about neither? 2560x1600 or greater and then we'll talk.

16:10 aspect ratio just makes more sense whether you're going multi monitor or single.

16:9 should be exclusively for budget panels and for people so shallow that they can't handle some letter-boxing in movies (even though the active portion is all you would get on a 16:9 panel anyway).

Personally I favor gaming on 2560x1440. I tried an nvidia surround setup with 24" monitors, but the fish eye on the side monitors was so bad in every game I sold one of them and picked up a 27" 2560x1440.

I now have 4 monitors, the 27", two 24" (one landscape, one portrait) and a 17". I play games in full screen windowed, so I can go between monitors when gaming. I love it, and wouldn't go back to nvidia surround myself.

I tried tri monitors at that res, and while it was nice for some games, the novelty wore off fast for me. I went instead with a 2560x1440 and am SO much happier. Just my 2cents.gif

You just get more real estate with 3x 1080p monitors. Having a segmented 5760x1080 bothers me. I prefer 1440p. Once you see the difference between the two you won't go back to 1080p.
