BTW, I also have 3 more 250GB HDDs for a total of 5, but even though, I have close to 40GB also in pics and home movies that I've collected for the past 2 years........that if I were to put in my RAID set up, it wouldn't even come close to filling up half the space I have left.

So, save your $50 and use it for something else.
i fill up my 300 gigs with EASE, ( i download tons), and in raid0 dont i still only have 320 gigs even though there are 2 320 gig hard drives

It depends on what you will be using it for........I have 4 of the 20s for a RAID 0 (only using 3 right now as my temporary case only supports 33 drives).

That's over 1TB of space, and I already know I will fill it all.....I actually wanted 5 320GB drives but price and the fact that my board only support 4 drives max in a RAID) stopped that plan.

RAID can be daunting, I speant about 3 weeks reading everything I could, asking questions and doing research before tackling mine, but in the end, it was pretty simple.

Follow the steps Nasgul laid out, that is perfect, and remember, whenever you flash or reset your BIOS, you will have to go in and change the hard drive section to RAID again. I forgot that once and almost had a heart attack thinking my array had disappeared LOL

No, you add the drives capacity. You will have 500 gig with 2X250's, and 640 gig with 2X320's. It's in RAID1 you only have 1/2 the total amount.

If you wanna RAID1 to backup, get 4 drives to still have 500 or 640GB

BTW, my 2x250 only give about 470 GB, just so ya know...

IMHO, grab a pair of good 80G for RAID0 and a third big one for storage.

i never thought the performance increase would have been so big!!

if you go with the 320 more space will be farther out on the disk moving faster for better transfer rates because the inside of the disk moves slower if you really think about it
