Memory upgrade.

Thread Starter
So there is a new sale for computer memory and I was wondering if I could upgrade. I currently have G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory and was wondering if I could upgrade to a set of G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM. I know it's possible, or should I just upgrade the existing memory? Would I run into problems?

if you want 16GB you could do both like buy another 2 x 4GB kit or change to a 2 x 8GB kit no problems

or you can run the 2 x 4GB kit in one channel and the 2 x 8GB kit in another channel giving you 24GB of RAM

if you buy another kit it is best if you can get the same kit.. but different kits will work tho

1) make sure they are the same speed or they will default to the lower speed.
2) try to get the same timings
3) most important is make sure they are the same voltage as if not can lead to instability

1) and 2) are optional

Thanks! I run 8gb memory and I use around 25-30% under load. If the memory was running at 10% at full load would it improve performance dramatically?
