While I understand what you're saying... it's just really an inferior product. You'll pay premium and not get the quality and it still isn't real 5.1/7.1.

Check this out... and even maybe post there to get better suggestions. I'm sure there are some great ones that are exactly what you want. People there would know better.

Rather you like it or not, multiple speakers still have to simulate the positioning of audio cues just as dh simulates it.

Unfortunately, if you want quality sound and voice transmissions, I think you're going to make a compromise somewhere if you pick up a headset.

The short answer is to your dilemma, is to buy headphones and microphone separately. But if you want a good microphone you are going to have to up your budget.

The long answer from what I've experienced - I have a pair of Steelseries 5h headphones, I bought them because I needed a pair of headphones that were cheap. I needed a microphone and a set of headphones and thought the headset would be the best of both worlds. Since, I usually use IEMs and it was my first experience with over-ear headphones/headset I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an expensive pair and then find out I don't like them.

In any case, compared to my Koss Porta Pro (which I used every now and again), they sounded and still do sound worse. I've grown accustomed to them, so it isn't a major issue any more. But I remember the first time I put them on, I thought to myself that it was a mistake buying them.

As for the microphone, I would argue it is also worse than my older skype mic I was using. Not terrible...just not as good as I thought it should be considering my mic was a cheap bargain bin mic...

So the question I guess would be why I still keep them. The reason is because of their comfort. Oh and the gaming. I use the headphones several hours a day, and IEMs don't work, they get very uncomfortable and drown out all sound which is not great when working from home. As for the Koss, they did my head in after a half hour, since they were so uncomfortable. The 5H are a treat, they are comfortable and don't annoy me, also when playing games, I am able to sit back and enjoy them because the games don't rely on bass driven sounds.

However, I am not happy with them. I want to upgrade them, the issue is, I want a good listening experience, so I start looking at pricier headphones, I also want good vocal experience so I start looking at stand alone microphones. Combine the two together and you are looking at prices in excess of some of the most expensive headphones on the market.

I'm not sure if I will go for another headset in the future. They are very convenient, but the quality just isn't there. Were I to go down the 2 separate device route...my budget would need to be increased and the convenience is reduced.

I use the Turtle Beach Earforce Delta...now before someone comes in flaming let me explain.

1. Dual bluetooth, I can be connected to the pc's bluetooth and my cellphone's bt(I also use these for work sometimes because I work out of the house)

2. Completely wireless(does eat hell out of batteries so I have rechargeable ones, but I believe the new blops2 ones come with rechargeable battery)

3. Because of the optical port works with pc/xbox/ps3/directv in surround sound using dolby headphone surround.

4. I travel alot back and forth and they came with a nice plastic storage box tongue.gif

5. I think they sound just fine. You can fine tune bass and treble to how you want or use their presets and game sound is independent of voip or bt

Here is just a shot i grabbed off google, but they have the px5 and xp500s without the mw3 branding and they have new black ops 2 ones coming out as well.

Since you mentioned you are looking at videos I've heard good things about the following microphones - I haven't forked the cash over, but these are the ones I'm looking at:

Samson C01u

The Yeti

Blue Snowball

These are the mics that many podcasters recommend, I guess it depends on how serious you are taking the videos. Also, on a side note, those prices are great! We get those prices with a £ instead of $ sign across the pond.

Give us a budget to work with.

Trust me, go with something people are recommending here. I didn't appreciate sound all that much until I started getting into headphones and audio. I now have Beyerdynamic DT880s with a Fiio E9 and a separated mic. I'll be a little happier when my Creative Titanium HD gets here though!

I just picked up a really awesome Logitech G35. Amazing sound, perfect quality, bass and treble control 7.1 surround works great and has a toggle switch. Great matte build and comfy headset. Cable is threaded to avoid tangling. Great quality in every way I can think of!

In complete agreement with springing for a good set of cans. I had a G930 before & thought it was gold as well till I got a Ultrasone pro 550, completely changed my whole listening experience.

Snowball^

I can get the snowball on tiger direct for 40-50 $ right now.

MXL seems to sound better to me for 80 $

Still dont have a great headset that can emulate 7.1 or the best quality for gaming etc.
