You can still overclock the 3820 via the FSB, and it won't have the TIM issues that ivy bridge has.

Edit: you can apparently increase the multiplier to 43x, in addition to adjusting the FSB.

You can overclock the 3820, but I don't want to have to unnecessarily turn up the core voltages and put extra strain on my system.

EDIT: nice! I might actually consider that, then!

IIRC a GTX690 can just saturate PCI-e 2.0 at 8x

And IIRC again, 16x is twice as much data that can be "used" compared to 8x, and from 2.0 to 3.0 again, so basicly PCI-e 3.0 16x can handle 4x more data than a GTX 690 can throw at it
