I have downloaded the pdf manual for the board from the gigabyte website already, it's what got me this far! lol

Okay - Molex is like a high molecular material, kind of looks like solid nylon, used for computer plugs and recepticals - just a type of plug and is often referred to as a Molex fitting. Now, if that plug doesn't have a P/S wire (rail), usally black & yellow, plugged in then there lies your problem . You need to get that Molex hooked up with your power supply (P/S). If your P/S dosen't have one you can get an adapter at most computer stores. If it is plugged in, then we have to look somewhere else. rolleyes.gif

P.S. I used to have that very same mobo,

I'm pretty sure you mean the plug in the top left of this pic, if not, I can see no other six pin plug anywhere on the board. Although I must restate that this is an eight pin plug, the words ATX 12v are right next to it on the board

yea it looks like its plugged in correctly. i really think it might be a corruption of the bios. did someone try to flash the bios for the wrong version of the board.?

Yeppers, thats the one! See if you can find a matching rail lead with a 8-pin connector on it and connect it up.

I guess that would have been too easy, I doubt that the BIOS (as long has it has one installed) would prevent the CPU from coming up. What I would do is pull the mobo out of the case at this point. Make a nice flat INSULATED surface, like a piece of thick cardboard. Inspected the back of the mobo and make sure there is nothing is, or has been, shorting out. With only 1 stick of RAM and the video card, put power on the system and see what happens.

Um, this is confusing, that lead in the picture is plugged into the board, there is nowhere else for it to go, the manual says to plug it there

yeah, I could see that coming! About the bios I dont know, as I said it is pre-owned but I dont think he did anything with it, it was basically a number cruncher for bit coin mining with linux. A friend has suggested that the bios may need updating before it can run this cpu, does that sound likely?. I am considering putting the old processor (sempron) that was in the board and see if it will work and maybe get bios downloaded? unfortunately I am still waiting for thermal paste to arrive so cant do it right now

What are those 2 CPU's? No, I don't think you have a BIOS problem. Think about this: You would have to have it running to do anything with the BIOS. Before you do anything too drastic, is there anyway for for you change out your P/S, maybe borrow one? BTW, what's your P/S rated at? With that board and any good video card, you're going to need at least 450-500 watts.
