Once you get you CPU fan working, then we can move forward.

POST or Power On Self Test checks to make sure your computer is ok to begin loading your operating system.
Is there a speaker on the board or one plugged in, you need it to beep once to say it has posted properly, before it will load windows.

This needs to be plugged into the red speaker spot on the motherboard, bottom left in this photo.

Can you modify the other fan that worked to fit on your cooler? Is it a fan with 4 pins PWM? It should be for the CPU fan. Is it plugged into the CPU Fan header.

Thanks, really great info, there is no speaker on the board that I can see so I would need to acquire on of those I think. What is it called so I know what to search for, or a link to a UK seller? would I be able to hear a beep if I had speakers or headphones connected to the case speaker connection?

great idea about the fans, they interchangeable, no adaptation required! I have retested with old fan on the cooler and all fans now come on. I obviously have no way of hearing a beep but I left it running for a couple of minutes. I also had a monitor plugged into one of the GPU's but it recieved no signal at any time during switch on

Feels like progress but should my monitor be getting some sort of signal at this point?

Pull everything but the essentials, unless you know it is in good working order. ie 1 stick of ram, 1 GPU, 1 HDD, 1 CDD.

ok, things have moved on! My new cooler arrived so I decided to fit with the old Sempron CPU that originally came off this board. Bingo! Got my beep and I am installing windows as I speak. I'm hoping that I will just need to download latest bios and then new CPU can be installed and work with mobo
