I keep on crashing on Sleeping Dogs benchmark. I can't get anything even stable at 1210 mhz.

What are your other values?

Memory Voltage?

Power Target?

Load Line?

Thanks, this is frustrating... kind of giving up mad.gif

I feel your pain, I can't get anything above 1185mhz FULLY game stable no matter the voltage or settings I have on.

I believe I got a lemon, and it's very disappointing as I've read I'm not the only one who spent $500+ on this card only to get shafted by the overclocking potential of a supposedly "binned" gpu core.

I think I'll be returning it and picking up the Devil 13 AX7990, don't want to take the chance on another..

Sorry to hear but you both received 'average' samples. The majority of Tahiti cards overclocks to somewhere in the ballpark of 1150-1250MHz on the core with 1250MHz and higher being excellent to supreme.

Yeah I realize that, and I wouldn't have a problem with 1185mhz if it was regular old 7970 but the fact that they're charging 500+ and letting a couple non-binned gpu cores slip out under the "platinum" version leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The Platinum version is touted as being binned, while the Matrix GHZ version is not binned (although that version of the Matrix hasn't actually been released yet I believe).

Oh well, better luck next time I guess tongue.gif

I've had 3 7970s before the Matrix. The third sample was the Lightning 7970 that was capable of 1210MHz/1700MHz. A respectable overclock but nothing spectacular. From my experience, binning is nonexistent but in the case that you receive a fine specimen the additional features on custom cards like the Lightning and Matrix may assist in reaching higher clocks. Nonetheless, I purchased my Matrix under the condition that if it overclocked poorly, I would exchange/return it for another or for my money back. To each his own but perhaps, you'll consider this too (If possible)?

It is truly an amazing card and with 12.11 beta it is considerably faster than the 680 Lightning that I had running at 1372MHz/1771MHz. Its overall build quality is matched only by the Lightning series. I found the latest Asus GPU Tweak to be leaps and bounds better than MSI Afterburner considering 'burner requires missing .dll files to be functional with Tahiti cards

congrats for having the highest clocking HD 7970 on air in OCN thumb.gif For gaming anything above 1.3 Ghz on Tahiti is just amazing. maybe to play it safe you should leave it at 1.3 Ghz . According to you will a HD 7950 (1.25 Ghz) beat the GTX 680 (1.35 Ghz) ?

But to each their own...
