fud, and they have gpu's on 28nm already, so whats next, no gpu processors on 28nm when they are already here ?

what a crock of crap.

But how do you know its going to be power efficient; Even trinity has 1.4V for 4.4GHZ and it is 250mm^2.
And it is at 4GHZ and the best F for RCM is 3.3GHZ i think.

I hope this is just speculation.

Hate to break it to you, but GloFo's 28nm process has nothing to do with TSMC's 28nm process. Plus, the delay likely isn't on the fab side of things. If it were, wouldn't it make more sense to say that GloFo is having a delay, not AMD?

AMD doesn't normally run on a 1 year release cadence. They've gone through some huge changes to allow a new design every year. And really, with two architectures and a numerous array of designs that run on those architectures, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if their launch date(s) slipped. Even Intel isn't immune to launch dates being pushed back. Plus, Steamroller is a much larger overhaul than Piledriver was.

Still, this article seems like nothing more than conjecture, and I'm not sure why the author has decided to pass this off as news.

Their 28nm GPUs are on a different process, built at a different fab, and from a different company. Doesn't give us any clue as to AMD CPUs.

As for the roadmap, an original 2013 date is required for a 2014 release to be considered a "delay."

But we'll just have to wait and see whether its FUD or true.

Did you not read the link, the bobcat 2.0 will be built at tsmc afaik, so AMD will have 28nm cpu's out next year.

again, the bobcat 2.0 will likely be made at tsmc, like bobcat 1.0 was

Bobcat is the core used in Brazos and Hondo. I don't know where it will be built but Brazos 2.0 is 40nm.

But this is all beside the point, as the rumor is not about the process being delayed, just certain AMD products on it.

Edit: By bobcat 2.0 did you mean Jaguar? Seems Jaguar parts are planned for 28nm at tsmc in 2013.

Very true. Steamroller will bring major performance increases when released. Many changes across multiple levels of the chip. CTO Mark Papermaster has already confirmed that Steamroller designs have been taped out which could only mean that AMD is working on future developments.

Things should really get interesting in the HSA arena when Kaveri is launched.

The voltage it runs at has nothing to do with it. You can't compare voltages across different architectures to get a sense of power consumption.
